Kyler always had the talent, the fit was always dependent on KOC adjusting for him. Today was a positive step. https://t.co/0T4CWwlhA2

Why? Not like he had anything to do with it 😏 Nice one with the backwards Jefferson pass coach.
They are really taking their time with Banks....limited plays each game, but he seems to do a splash play or two regardless. He's still rounding into football shape, its a good approach. 👍

I think it was 9 snaps and 2 total tackles. Which is crazy

Jones has been workhorse while nursing a knee injury. But kudos to KOC for sticking with it.

Kyler Murray, Justin Jefferson show how dangerous the Vikings can be
NEW ORLEANS – The ball was headed for disaster. Three Saints players versus one Vikings player, all in the same vicinity. The math didn’t work.
Except that one Vikings player was Justin Jefferson, and it’s never a bad idea to throw the ball in his direction, even when he’s outnumbered.
The outcome seemed destined to be an interception, until Jefferson showed why he’s the best in the world at his craft with a how-did-he-do-that touchdown catch that was both spectacular and spectacularly relieving for an offense that had treated the end zone as some mythical destination.
“It’s Justin Jefferson,” head coach Kevin O’Connell noted.
Point taken.
“When you’ve got a guy like that,” quarterback Kyler Murray said, “of course you trust him.”
That singular play and overall performance in Sunday’s 23-13 win over the Saints at Caesars Superdome demonstrated why the Vikings pursued Murray to be their quarterback and what the Murray-Jefferson tandem is capable of when they are on the field together.
The Vikings continued to establish an offensive identity because their quarterback and their best player were masterful.
“It’s just great to see those plays get made,” O’Connell said. “Great to see Kyler running the offense, but also we’re seeing his own spin on it.”
Vikings QB Kyler Murray was in control against Saints
Murray picked up where he left off last week against Miami by wheeling and dealing with his right arm and his legs. He had complete control in orchestrating O’Connell’s offense, which is evolving to fit Murray’s strengths.
Murray completed his first 12 passes, had only six incompletions and finished with 229 yards passing. He closed the Dolphins game by completing 12 of 13 passes in the fourth quarter.
“Spitting completions” is how O’Connell describes it. Murray is not forcing matters (OK, the touchdown to Jefferson carried high risk). He’s spreading the ball to his cast of receivers to give the offense, and himself, a nice flow and rhythm.
Murray also unveiled his full athletic arsenal for the first time. He used his trademark improvisation to either buy time in the pocket or scramble for first downs, finishing with 51 rushing yards on 10 carries. Those escape-artist displays are deflating for a defense.
“He’s making something out of nothing,” Jefferson said. “That’s something that we’re expecting out of him.”
The concussion Murray suffered 11 snaps into the season opener disrupted his acclimation to the offense. The operation looked rusty once he returned. Murray and O’Connell have since discovered a template to lean into the past six quarters.
“He’s gaining more comfort and more confidence,” O’Connell said. “I never thought this would start out in a way where we would just snap our fingers.”
Justin Jefferson helps out Kyler Murray in Saints win
That process, of course, goes smoother when Jefferson is on the field. Sunday marked the first full game with the Murray-Jefferson pairing after both battled injuries.
Jefferson returned from an ankle injury that effectively cost him two games. The former LSU star was listed as questionable but pushed hard to play in his Louisiana homecoming.
He put on a show.
He made a one-handed, over-the-shoulder grab that gained 21 yards on a drive that ended with a field goal late in the first half. That was merely an appetizer.
Jefferson’s 15-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the second half was the type of play that provides fuel for debate: Better throw or better catch?
Correct answer: Yes.
“That was incredible,” Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel said.
On third-and-6, Jefferson collided with safety Jonas Sanker as he sprinted off the line and stumbled, nearly falling.
He continued his route and drew three Saints defenders as he reached the end zone. Murray wasn’t deterred. His pass cleared two defenders and somehow, someway, Jefferson made the catch behind them, then got his feet down while falling backward in a blur of brilliance.
“I didn’t necessarily see that two-by-two box in the back corner of the end zone that Kyler put that ball into,” O’Connell said.
Jefferson’s one-handed fourth down catch at Buffalo in 2022 set a bar for difficulty and theatrics that will be hard to top. This one belongs to an expanding list of silver medal entries.
“Definitely wasn’t the most open,” Jefferson said, laughing. “It was a great, great throw. There was nothing else that I could do besides just put my hands up and make the grab.”
He makes it sound so easy.
Those two highlight catches revealed Murray’s trust in Jefferson despite the pair having limited time together. More globally, the offense is developing an identity while navigating a rash of injuries.
“I feel like our offense is ascending,” Murray said. “I’m excited about where we’re going.”
Sunday provided a glimpse of what that might look like. A quarterback spitting completions and a receiver spitting magic.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
