Who's your sleeper Viking player this year?
Mine is Big Citrus (almost went Max B)
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

This. I think Elijah Williams is going to really surprise people this year. 6'3 / 300 lbs of fun with a good motor
I too think it will be Mason. With us being ahead in many games, we will rely on a rusher like him to carry us home. SO bad do I want a damn SB and to have Little Man bring it home to us!

Still gnawing that bone eh Jimmy?
Lol, Wilson is doing well in this scheme, but was nowhere near Barr's talent and impact.
doh-k
we rarely got the bang for the buck with Barr, he was over hyped and over paid IMO. we would have been much better with Wilson and used that money to bolster other positions. Barr was a tarzan and jane type player, no matter what Zimmer tried to sell us.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Lol, ask any player on those defenses. Barr was one of the reasons they could do what they do. Guarantee Wilson doesn't do the double mug of the A gap

how doesnt he? its not like Barr was an HOF LB, he played a role at a good level for a few years, but he wasnt what Zimmer tried to make him out to be. sorry if i didnt see the value in his play, but for what he was drafted at ( what we passed up to get him) and what he was paid.... I just didnt see the value, and that is what fills trophy cases, under paying for over performing, not the other way around, especially in a capped league.

Zimmer actually wanted to take Aaron Donald in that draft. Spielman was the main voice who selected Barr. Was another case where the GM shoulda listened to the coach on that one.

I didnt know that, but I do know that Zimmer defended him like very few others when he drew questions over his performance.

If you didn't like Barr, what did Wilson ever do that impressed you so much? He was JAG until last year.
Sorry, but Barr was a freak. Not many LBs that could mug the A gap and still get out to the flat in coverage. I will take the words of the NFL coach that knew what he meant to that D. Harrison and Barr were the 2 guys that dictated that D. The space they covered and took away forced the offenses to go elsewhere. Just because he was unselfish and didn't chase numbers like Jared Allen did.
In a way like Darrel Revis, they didn't get big numbers because people just didn't go at them. If his knees didn't fail him, he could have been looking at a HOF career IMO.
But that is water under the bridge. He broke Rodgers, that was impact enough to love him. Got a rule made because of that play. And that play alone shows what his skill level was. Rodgers thought he had time, but Barr closed that gap so fast.

I agree here. Barr was a multi faceted LB who could do most everything. He allowed Zimmers D to have all sorts of exotic packages to confuse O's.
Many people wished Zimmer had sent barr on more blitz packages vs pass protection and I would have liked to see more of that also.
But either way or he was a stud for us. Him and Rhodes along with Harry were quite the group. Even Kendricks was playing out of his mind then

Rodgers used to hold the ball until the last second trying to draw the free 15 yards... he guessed wrong on that play. Barr was an ok player, but never really wowed me with the consistency that a 4 time probowler or high first round pick should have.

This is right up there with Bednarik-Gifford.

This is pretty much the quintessential take on Barr. Well said.
That being said, I’d give my pinky toe to see what he could have been under BFlo. I’d imagine he be in the Ginks role. Too good in coverage to put him on the other side, but very effective in rushing the passer as well.

Zimmer was the defensive genius before Flores came along. He innovated every year. The Double A gap rocked the league, teams didn't have an answer for it. And the next year he had something else. He was doing stuff in coverage that was crazy as well, just doesn't get the attention of sacks and pressure. Under Zim was the first I heard of pattern matching coverage, couple that with the pressure, it was fun to watch.

Zimsu had elite defenses 2015-2019. 2020/2021 they were pretty, pretty bad. More $ to pay Cousins and the double a gap mug was exposed at that point.

Wasn't that after Rhodes and Waynes signed big contracts elsewhere? Without real dbs, the defense struggled. Barr also missed most of 2020.
