Ladies and Gentlemen, the next President of the United States
#1
Back in January, three months before the draft, I posted this: "I'm calling it early. The Vikings first round pick will be Garrett Bradbury."

Back in 2004, after his speech at the DNC, and 4 years before he was elected, I turned to my wife and said, "there's America's 1st black president." Of course I wasn't alone in that prediction. And even I didn't think he would win in the VERY next election.

But I'm calling it again. A year and three months before, I'm calling the winner of the presidential election: Pete Buttigieg. Americans tend to gravitate toward the thing we chose last time and didn't like. Got a "womanizer," go with the church-goin' simpleton.  Got a "simpleton," go with the constitutional law professor. Got an erudite "elitist" minority, go with the petulant white nationalist who speaks like your racist Uncle who's, y'know, not ALL bad.  Got an aging bigot who avoided serving his country and barely speaks one language? Go with the former intelligence officer and Afghanistan war veteran who was a Rhodes scholar, Harvard grad and speaks seven languages.

Two years before he decided to run, I put an Obama sticker on my car. There weren't any stickers available so I made one. I have that same feeling about Mayor Pete.

I am willing to place money on this one.

I thought this awhile ago but have reversed course.

I could see Harris/Buttigieg ticket.

Part of the reason I say this is the picture below released today...And he's doing this despite very low name recognition. He's popular among folks who pay attention to politics, but among rank and file Democrats (especially black and hispanic voters) he's relatively unknown. Considering his fuel (money), when his name recognition starts to improve, he could explode.

If he doesn't win the nomination, it will be because he's not seen as the "fighter" that someone like Kamala Harris (or even Biden) is. A big segment of Democrats want someone who will dish back the same sort of shit that Twitter boy dishes. While he might be the smartest and best-spoken of the candidates, he may not have that attack mentality.

I don't see it.  I don't think he carries the gravitas (i.e. "celebrity") that it takes to get elected these days.  You could be right... what do I know?
But if he were to get the nomination, I'd be genuinely curious to see if the country is ready for a "first man / gentleman" (what would the proper term be)?  If he was the nominee, most liberals would vote for him- just because he was one of "them"... and most conservatives would reflexively not vote for him- because he was a liberal.  But what would the "undecideds" do?  I tend to think that people are less tolerant of homosexuality than the media would have us believe.  As wrong as it might be, I do think that some "undecided" would refuse to vote for him- for the sole reason that he is gay.

But, who am I to argue with your track record?   B)

Honestly, I think the fact that he's gay will have nothing to do with it. It's like Obama's color. The very, VERY small group of folks who would consider that a problem, aren't going to vote for a Democrat anyway. And independents, because they're independent, aren't going to care about his sexual orientation. Did you know that independents (I'm guessing because many of them are libertarian?) support gay marriage at a higher percentage than even Democrats? No, his sexual preference will not be an issue.

What's more, like Obama's color, Buttigieg's sexual preference will work as a block for mainstream right-wing media. Because of advertising dollars, they can't be seen as obviously racist or homophobic, so they won't be able to attack his sexuality. They will have to resort to dog whistles like they did with Obama. Yeah, the far right personalities will attack his sexuality with impunity--the Alex Joneses, tea party types, etc. But like it did with Obama, that will only help Buttigieg among independents.

Buttigieg's biggest challenge will be convincing the rank and file that he's willing to mix it up and not just explain. If he can't do that he won't win. I think he will.

I like the fact he's a veteran.  Very cool.  He's very well spoken.

I like one aspect of his recently revealed "Douglass Plan".  which I've bolded.
(The rest is crap)

"His "Douglass Plan" aims to establish a $10 billion fund for black entrepreneurs over five years, invest $25 billion in historically black colleges, legalize marijuana, expunge past drug convictions, reduce the prison population by half and pass a new Voting Rights Act to further empower the federal government to ensure voting access. His campaign says it is equal in scale to the Marshall Plan, which used the equivalent of approximately $100 billion at current value to rebuild Europe after World War II. Buttigieg says the program would be enacted alongside potential direct reparations for slavery, not in place of it.
The two-term mayor also supports a constitutional amendment to abolish the death penalty, and intends to expand the Supreme Court and eradicate the Electoral College. "Douglass Plan". "

I stated in an earlier thread, that I think reparations in the form of stimulating black entrepreneurship, and a on‌e=time (per slave descendant) prime rate/no $ down housing loan program.
Apparently Booty-Judge must read VF, as he stole my idea.  Smile

And the name "Booty-Judge"?
I'm down wit dat.  Been one, my whole life.   B)

Sounds like your argument is with Pumpf not me.

What Fox thinks about homosexuality has nothing to do with their agenda to support the GOP. Fox might actually have a gay personality or two, but it won't prevent them their agenda.

It's like Shep Smith. He's the one person on Fox who actually TRIES to tell the truth, but Fox viewers hate him for it. He doesn't get anywhere.

He is the only one I won’t watch.

Not homophobic - I like Tammy Bruce.
