Vikings add backup quarterback Sean Mannion

Man, hope Sloter takes backup spot. Not much confidence in Sloter?

Mannion does absolutely nothing for me. I was hoping for a legitimately good developmental QB out of the draft.  Why spend extra money on a veteran who if forced to play the season is done at that point anyway?

I don't really get this one. If Cousins were to go down, I don't see Mannion being a good next option.

It'll probably be announced as a competition for spots #2, #3 during camp.

But obviously they weren't comfortable handing #2 to Sloter right now.

Much rather have a developmental prospect like Tyree Jackson late Day 3 than a never was and never will be...plus after two years, you'd think we'd want to see what Sloter can do with live bullets...

Mannion made $800k last season...
Sloter made $600k.

I think Mannion is a good type of QB to bring in to compete with Sloter. He has a sliver of experience, he's young, and he won't be priced into keeping the job. We can have a genuine competition and move on from the loser with little to no hard feelings.

There is a contractual line that ends real competition. Did Sloter seem to have any real shot at replacing Trevor Siemian last year? No, and i'd guess it's because Trevor was making $1.9 million... we ain't gonna eat that and roll the dice. The dynamic is the same trying to sign another QB on; if you overpay him there is no competition.

If Mannion is making $1.9 million in 2019 i'll eat my keyboard...

This is a bit of a head scratcher for me. I hold nothing against the guy but they should know if Sloter can handle the 2 spot right now, and if he is unable too, sign a more proven vet.

Then I looked at what’s available and realized how limited options are right now. From that viewpoint I get this move.

I really think they need to identify a mid round 3-5 prospect to draft this year.
