Zimmer - Crap in our hands
#1
I heard this remark from Zimmer on radio yesterday, and it sounded even more weird verbally than in print:
Quote:Q: The Seattle game is important to the playoff race. How will you address that with the team?

A: I’ll let them know, but if we go out there and we beat Seattle,
who’s on a three game winning streak, if we beat them and we go out and
we crap in our hands the next three weeks, that doesn’t do us any good.

OK, I understand that Zimmer hates the media - though that's kind of a tired denial of reality for an NFL coach - and maybe he says a different message with his players...but really, WTF does this mean? Sounds like he's telling his players not to worry too much about Seattle because he thinks they might win there but then get beat at home by Miami or in Detroit. Essentially that he has no confidence.

Z is just saying beating Seattle is important, but there's 3 more games after that which are also vital. One game at a time. 'Crap in our hands' is a crude statement, not sure why it was necessary, but that's Z for better or worse.

My take on his comments is that every game is important from here out.  Getting up for a team like the Seahags but letting up on lesser teams is not gonna get it done.

That and i't's pretty obvious this and every game is important, for him to tell his guys that this is the "superbowl" does not make sense and has the potential to put less emphisis on the next three games.

I 2nd this take. Zim just has a way with words.

So he doesn't want to make this a "must win" game. But what would be wrong with acknowledging that winning Monday would be a great opportunity to keep up with (or make up ground on) the Bears and also to defeat a key rival for a wildcard seat?  It just feels like minimizing the game beforehand to better rationalize a loss afterwards.
And "crap in our hands" is also weird, not because it's vulgar, but because it suggests a real shoot-yourself-in-the-foot type of loss. A coach that worries his team might "fall short" has a very different perspective than one who thinks they might "crap in their hands".

I keep wishing, however the returns have been mostly crap, unfortunately...

People who "crap in their hands" usually need medication, so I agree. What is Zimmer trying to say?!?!?!?!?!?! Does he think this team is mentally distracted?!!!!!? Maybe someone in the locker room is throwing poop around?!?!? SPIELMAN!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

A crude way of saying if we get in our own way, we'll lose and that mental errors and carelessness will not get the job done. Win or go home.
