Favorite Viking Player of All-time
#1
I just read a book on the 50 greatest Vikings of all time.  Must say after a lot of deliberation, John Randle.  Loved the guys demeanor on the field, and the person he seems to be off the field.  Nobody psyched me up as much.   Interested to hear other choices and why.

Tarkenton.

......why yours truly became a Vikes fan
Guy would scramble around...set up.....scramble....
duck oncoming DTs, run around then launch one to Rashad or White.....TD

JR is a great choice. But my favorite Vikings player will always be Alan Page.

Born and raised in the Bronx (as the son of Irish Catholic Immigrants), the 11th commandment was "thou shalt support the Notre Dame Fighting Irish".

Once he became a Viking, I was hooked. Loved watching the PPE in the snow every week on "This Is The NFL" highlight shows.

What the ORIGINAL AP (some fans still refer to Adrian Peterson as AP instead of his REAL moniker of AD),  accomplished after his playing career is unrivaled by any other NFL player, IMO. A TRUE humanitarian and one who lets his actual accomplishments speak for themselves.

He was also the first defensive player to be named MVP. I think the only other was Lawrence Taylor, but I could be wrong.

Many other favorites, Moss, Browner, Foreman, Eller, Carter, Jordan, Millard, Randle, etc.

But Alan Page, for me, remains the ULTIMATE Viking for many reasons.

Cris Carter. I tried to emulate his play every time I played football as a little kid growing up. I wanted to be him every time I lined up for a "hike."  ...years before Randy Moss made it mainstream lol... you could always throw it to me and I always wanted to prove it...

I traded Jerry Rice cards for Carters when I was really young too lol... Carter just had a lot to do with football snowballing as an interest in my life and I always look back and appreciate his play here.

This is a tuff one. I like different players for different reasons.

John Randle was the ultimate over achiever. Walk on player to HOF
Alan Page was the anchor of a legendary D line and did so much after.
Randy Moss was the most electrifying player ever to wear the horns.
Chris Carter was the most perpared ever. Year in year out 1000 yards with a different QB most every year.
Fran Tarkenton the machine. He held almost every QB record conceivable at the time he retired.
Non HOF'ers that I favor.
Steve Jordan was so tough.
Joey Browner same on the other side.
Adrian Peterson the future HOF'er.
If only one can be picked.
I choose Moss. He was thee most amazing.

Great topic, Waterboy.  This is always a tough question as there have been so many that have defined what it is to be a Viking. So I take the easy road and say on...
Offense:  Fran Tarkenton.  The only Viking I've had a chance to visit with, albeit briefly, and have my picture with.  He was, IMHO, the first great modern era QB.  Runner up:  Randy Moss.  Honorable mention:  Joe Kapp.
Defense:  The toughest call, but I would have to say Alan Page for all the  aforementioned reasons.  Runner up: Paul Krause.  Honorable mention: Carl Eller.

cant name one...
Krause, Page, Foreman
Jordon, Studwell, Browner, Kramer
Randle, Millard, Carters (both of them) McDaniel
Moss, Kleinsasser
Smith, BRob

This team has had so many different identies over my 45 years of watching them its impossible to rank my favorites... I am sure if I sat here I would realize that I am missing a few of the players that made me tune in every week.

Edit: Good Lord,  how could I forget the local boy...of course Chad Greenway is on the list.
