A pro team releasing all 3 of it's qb's for 1 new guy. I guess the reality of that is settling in for me with the passage of a little time.
PRetty crazy set of circumstances huh?
We'll soon see how this unfolds. Lots of story lines with 4 different teams at play.
I've never seen it before. If somehow Bradford stays healthy all season and plays well, that is going to be tough to swallow. I think Keenum will be up and down.

Such high hopes for Teddy too...Well, we've been through that already, I guess there's no need to rehash it all. But boy I give RS, Zimmer and Wilfs the Brass Balls Trophy for what they just did with the most important position in sports. Dayum.
After 1968 the team was coming into a season having just made their 1st ever playoff appearance. They elected to not exercise the option for Joe Kapp. 1969 he was team MVP which he declined with his famous 40 for 60 quote. Entering the 1970 season having just won the NFL championship and making the Super Bowl he was a free agent. He was not resigned. I don't know all the politics involved in these choices. I was just a kid. However his backup Gary Guozzo started the next 2 seasons. Then realizing the team needed a leader. They traded to bring back Tarkenton in 1972. As great as Fran was. He couldn't do in 3 trys what Joe failed to do his one. However some believed we had a leader in Joe that got away.
I know it sounds crazy, but what's crazy is your franchise QB suffering a non-contact, career-threatening injury, trading a 1st rounder to bring in his replacement, then him suffering a career-threatening injury, then the backup coming in and winning 13 games, then a 29-year-old QB who's thrown for 4,000 yards each of the last three seasons becoming available in free agency.

LMAO. No doubt.

That's actually not crazy. It's why this makes sense. A rare young FA QB of decent quality becomes available. One with no injury history. Rick rolled the dice no doubt that he'd land him. However just look at OUR history. See why it was time to roll'm.
1st rd pick: Culpeper.. injured.
2nd pick: TJack..bust.
1st rd pick: Ponder..bust.
1st rd pick: Teddy..injured.
Traded 1st: Sam..always injured.
That's a lot of missed high pick shots. Forever searching for the next franchise guy. 2 freaking decades! Maybe the safe thing to do would have been just bring back Case. The guy who fell in your lap.
However the team needed to change recent history. So here's a guy with good production and no injury history to scare you off.
Oh how will we screw it up...

I'm not old enough to know this firsthand, but I've watched a lot of old newsreel and read alot of anthologies re:the Vikings. Based on that, I'm guessing that the team thought they could do better as a passer, as Joe threw some horrific ducks. But I don't think anyone ever questioned his toughness or leadership.

I remember Joe. I'm old enough to remember. Was just too young to pay attention to the politics of football yet. Guys who rocked the boat any back then were black balled. Free agency was almost more a punishment then a opportunity. I just always wondered if Joe fell into that trap. Do you remember or heard? I've watched quite a few old timey games footage too. Seemed throwing ducks was what alot of great ones did then...lol. Just basing my opinion here on what the older generation thought about Joe and what could have been in 1970/71. We might have changed our destiny.

Well, that was my point.
And I don't think that Rick really rolled the dice. While it's technically true that Sam, Teddy and Case all signed their deals before we locked up Cousins, this was a done deal long before pen was set to paper.
And while your list of QB busts is largely correct, don't forget that nearly every playoff-hopeful season going back 10-12 years has ended with some sort of QB injury. Culpepper, Favre, Ponder, Cassel, Teddy, Sam.
I'm sure that injury history played a big part in the desire to start fresh with a QB who has been remarkably durable, starting 48 of his last 48 games.
