If this is a motivating factor for anybody in this conversation I would like to meet them so I can kick them in the balls. I honestly dont think this is a big issue for most simply because the sport has so many black players. In this age I think we are pretty much past seeing football players for their skin color... except for white RBs :p
Third, it’s would be foolish to not consider the racial component, especially against the backdrop of the ongoing anthem debate. Some (many) white fans surely resent (consciously or not) the fact that African-American men parlay God-given physical skills into the kind of money and fame that the average white person never will enjoy, no matter how hard he or she works. So when African-American players try to get more money that some (many) white fans think they don’t really deserve, those fans get even more upset, reasoning that the players who already have more than they should should simply be happy with what they’re getting.

I don't know the average fan care if a player is a camp holdout. If they start missing games more people take notice. Mike just had to make this about race. Didn't think much of that. Fans just want their best players on the field and ready when the games matter. I don't think fans notice if the owners not in his box. They notice when their star WR is missing. Is that really race related?

To this day I loathe Bryant McKinnie for his holdout. I will say that if the CBA allows for it, then who really cares? OTOH, with all we are learning about CTE and that scary stuff, there should be more protections for players. If they bargain to decide that protection is a higher cut of the revenue, then so-be-it

I don't think there really is a racial component to this at all (Well obviously for a handful of people there is).
I also disagree that people are siding with Billionaires holding down Millionaires. The NFL has a salary cap. It's not like owners are cheapskating the players. For the most part the owners are all paying players the same amount of money. For me, I think people really don't want to hear rich people bitching about not having enough money or respect, when we all have to go to work at jobs we probably don't really care about just to pay the bills. It's like listening to a hot girl talk about all the problems she has to deal with being beautiful. Secondly, we're mostly fans of the team rather than individual players, and to the extent that we are fans of players, we're probably fans of a lot of players on the team. Signing players to big contracts is great for the player, but it's less good for the team than if you could have signed them for less, and it's less good for the other players that we in the pipeline to try and resign. Signing a Cousins type contract inhibits our ability to resign all of Hunter, Barr, Waynes, Richardson, etc. So for us, our happiness for Cousins is tempered by us hurting our team and potentially losing a Barr or a Waynes or a Hunter.

In general, fans support a team. A guy holding out (or wanting more money) is seen as hurting a team. Most fans don't bother with the business side of the game, so they just see that player is making X Million and find it outrageous that amount is not enough.
Most fans aren't exposed to how much the owners and league rake in, so they aren't bothered by those numbers. But a guy making annual salaries that are 10 times what most people will earn in a lifetime make it tough to elicit feelings of sympathy. Couple that with idiotic quotes made by players on occasion, Peterson's slavery comment, Sprewell's family..., and it is really hard to feel sympathy.
