Explaining why Stefon Diggs would be very hard to replace
#1
Matthew Coller connects with NFL Network’s Matt Harmon to talk about why an in-depth study of Stefon Diggs’ route running and contested catch ability shows that he is one of the best receivers in the NFL and how Pat Shurmur took Adam Thielen’s game to the next level last year.

The roadmap is there for Flip and he can put his own spin on the offense. Diggs isn't going anywhere.

Dalvin Cook is going to open things up for everyone on offense.

I think losing Diggs would be a bigger hit to the team than losing any one of the defenders.  While I think you could argue which player is better or worse between Diggs and the defenders, but I infinitely more trust our defense to get another guy up to speed than for us to develop another WR.  I think we got lucky with Diggs, just coming into the league and being productive.  I also think that without that second receiver our offense takes a big hit back, whereas maybe our defense drops to top 7 without Barr or Waynes or whoever.

I think I would rather see our passing game open up the running game.  I think they leaned on Cook to much to soon last year.  When he comes back I am hoping to see the passing game be the focus and then let Cook gouge them with a timely mix of runs and routes out of the backfield.

And for the love of God can we learn to put teams away early and not go up by 2 scores and crawl into a shell?

I mean neither score,  points,   or win are 4 letter words....they should use them more around Zimmer so he can relax a bit.  He seems comfortable enough with winning,  but damn they don't need to be dramatic,  I enjoy watching an ass whooping once in a while.

That's what used to drive me nuts with ol' Denny.  Pepp, Randy and Co. would jump on a team and get up by 3 or 4 scores, then  the sheriff would let his "bend but not break" D cause me to chew my nails off in the second half.
I think this whole coaches "honor" code of not running up scores is the biggest culprit.  And advertiser revenue...

I feel pretty secure in our offense, as a whole, stepping up with Cousins, the returning Cook, and our proven receiving corps.  If Flip is even vaguely capable as an OC, he'll have a field day with the tools the Vikings provide.  This may be the best Vikings team ever assembled, and I'm not just saying that for effect.

Cousins has a TON to live up to, but if he does...I wouldn't worry much about facing any team in the league.

Those 10-12 games a year when he's fully healthy he definitely gives the O a lift...

If they play to potential, stay healthy? I agree that on paper this team is pretty damn good. Just wish I could grab that OL from 98 and put it on the 18 team.
