Just my opinion

Spielman has done fairly well at drafting over the years.  Ill give him that. So far Im not impressed but Id venture to guess very few of us has really looked at eithet of these two prior to being drafted.

As fans we arent used to drafting this low. Weve been able to watch high end prospects get picked year in and out. This is the price of winning. We play harder scheduals. We pick lower in the draft and eventually we run into cap trouble.

This is why teams that loose the championship game rarely get back to it the following year. Im still excited about our chances this year. Ive not been a fan of every move theyve made but it is what it is. There will be aging veteran lineman that hit the FA market. Id have to assume at this point we’re going to look that route before we start training camp.

I do look forward to a post draft update from Geoff!!  Hes looked into most these player way beyond what most of us have.

Skol!!!!    And FTP!!!!

I liked the Hughes pick.  And I see what we are doing with the O'Neill pick. If McGlinchey or Wynn were available at 30, that would likely have been the pick at 30. Hernandez did not fit. Other than Hurst, CB was the right pick. I liked Jackson better. But I hope the Vikings know how to select a CB better than I do. If not, we are certainly screwed.

The draft never worries me unless they make a catastrophically bad pick that's evident from day one. I remember a lot of pissed off people when we drafted somebody named Kevin Williams. Remember that guy? And I remember a lot of people also excited for Matt Kalil.

It's all speculation. Just the same as Monday morning QBing after a loss. If Hughes steps into a contributing role this year because of an injury and O'Neill wins a starter spot on the line, Spielman will be getting accolades for them a year from now.

We all knew going in that this was not going to be a star studded event for our Vikes
Yes we draft lower, but we were not looking for a superstar QB, RB, WR nor DL
WE already have them !

Thing is you gotta get a starter or 2-3 each year into the program. They dont have to start this year but we’ll need to see them contribute now and start in the next year or two if we’re to stay dominate.

No one knows how any guy from the draft is going to turn out.  I've never understood why people get worked up over selections.  I can understand the value aspect of a pick, as it would be totally understandable for people being upset at drafting a punter in the first round, but again, no one really knows how it's going to turn out.

I don't really agree with this statement though: "As fans we arent used to drafting this low."
2016 the Vikings first pick was 23rd.  Higher, yes, but it's not like they were picking in the top half.
2017 the Vikings first pick was 41st and that was with a trade up.

Some just aren't happy with the selections.  It happens, but it has no bearing on whether or not the selection pans out.

I am not at all worried. It is what it is. We have our own visions and plans but the coaches and front office are handling their business. It just brings us closer to putting the pieces together and assembling the 2018-2019 Minnesota Vikings.

2017 1st pick was an 8-8 year with Bradford which at the time was the right move.

And I think we got those. Hughes looks like he can contribute right away on special teams and he also adds quality depth to a secondary that had a rough last 6 quarters.

Oniell looked good against Chubb, give him a shot.

ok there were some presents that didnt get put under the tree--but I'm not worried.  in fact, i feel pretty good about this draft.  We were drafting low, with no real ammunition to trade up.  Highes is gonna be good.  Big upside with O'Neill and he seems smart and a quick learner.  the kicker sounds like an upgrade.  I'm optimistic and eager to see how it plays out. I'm willing to bet we are not done revamping the OL and a plan is in place for that.

should be a fun yesr.
