And when he goes to Heaven,

To St. Peter he will tell:

Another marine reporting, Sir;

I've served my time in hell

Rest Easy Gunny

The sergeant in FMJ might be one of the most iconic characters in movie history. But what's funny about it...I get the feeling he wasn't acting.

He was first brought on as a consultant for the original actor playing the role as the Drill Sergeant.  He was so convincing in the role, that they hired Ermey to do the part.  Could be because he was a former Marine Gunney.

^^^^^^

Fun fact.....the actor they hired to originally play Sgt. Hartman was then cast as the door gunner in the Helicopter...."get some....get some....yeah....yeah...Anyone who runs is a VC....Anyone who stands still....is a WELL DISCIPLINED VC"

He was spewing out so much shit trying to get that role that Stanley Kubrick didn't understand a lot of them. He asked once "what's a reach around?"
