The Green Bay Packers are being bold in free agency.
The team is expected to sign former Seattle Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham when the free-agent signing period begins Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
Graham was ranked No. 21 on NFL.com's Top 101 Free Agents of 2018. In addition to the Packers, the New Orleans Saints -- the team he played on for five years to start his career -- and the Chicago Bearswere among the teams in the hunt for his services.

Packers released WR Jordy Nelson.
The move clears $10.2 million in cap space and leaves behind a modest $2.3 million in dead money. It's a stunning development in that Nelson is a Packers institution, but it's not surprising in the context of a soon-to-be 33-year-old receiver coming off a concerning campaign. Looking visibly slower, Nelson saw his yards per catch crash to 9.1 in 2017. He struggled with both Aaron Rodgers and Brett Hundley under center. Despite his age, the drop off was surprising after Nelson bounced back so well from his torn ACL in 2016. Healthy now, Nelson won't hurt for teams wanting to take a flier.

Packers signed TE Jimmy Graham, formerly of the Seahawks, to a three-year contract.
Graham appeared headed for a reunion with the Saints, but the sides couldn't figure out the financials. Graham is coming off his first double-digit touchdown campaign since 2014 but saw his yards per catch crater from 14.2 to 9.1 last season. The drop off came even as Graham was another year removed from his devastating knee injury. Now 31, he required frequent maintenance days in Seattle. Despite his advancing age and seeming loss of a step, Graham is an intriguing pairing with a quarterback who at one point coaxed an eight-score season out of Richard Rodgers.

Graham was supposed to be the next big thing. Uncoverable. But once he left NO, he was a nobody. He finally showed up last year (contract year?) but otherwise was a nobody.

Dunno, he was good, but doesn't seem like the missing piece for the Packers. They are about a defense away from competing.

A 6-time Pro Bowl nobody. Look, I want this to be a failure as much as anyone else west of the St. Croix , but I don't think you're being fair here.

Graham's been in Seattle 3 years. The first year he was on IR. But he made the Pro Bowl both of his last two seasons. I know Pro Bowls are mostly meaningless, but he's still one helluva pass catching TE, especially in the red zone. I'd say he gives Rodgers the best receiving TE he's ever had.
