Vikings get green light for tailgating at new Eagan facility

The Vikings are continuing to talk with the city about whether or not there will be open flames allowed on the grounds of the facility. For such things to be allowed, there are going to have to be a whole lot of restrictions. . .obviously. The article states, however, that the Vikings envision there eventually being two or three areas where open flames will be allowed a safe distance away from vehicles.
We'll see...Probably very limited, but I applaud them for trying and listening to their fans.

Is this a big deal?   Will people really want to tailgate in the hot  August sun?  Typically I want to get somewhere with AC or at least out of the sun and crowds for a few hours.

Some people tailgate when it's freezing, I don't see why they wouldn't want to tailgate when it's hot out. People have been going to training camp for years and sitting out in the hot August sun. Guess we'll have to wait and see how this works out.

I was thinking who would want to tailgate for training camp?  The only thing I would say is it might be nice to be able to do it between morning and afternoon practices.

In 1998 I went to the Dallas game. 12 hour drive, got there in the wee hours of the morning. Parked real close to the stadium, only car there. When the sun came up I fired up the grill to make steak and eggs for breakfast. Security shows up and says "No open fires allowed in the lot". I picked up a lit weber by 2 legs and carried it out to the grassy strip between the parking lot and the interstate and cooked breakfast there. A few hours later I watched 3 for 163 for 3 TD's!

And between sessions we go some place cool.  Not stand over a grill in an asphalt parking lot.  Or maybe some will enjoy it.  Sounds to me like a cash register ringing and not so much about doing something for the fans.

Oh Jimmy you are growing so cynical in your *ahem* old age.

For the record I agree with your assessment.

It's a given that money is a factor. That's smart business to maximize the dollars coming in. It will be interesting to see what the fans do with this.
