Same As It Ever Was...Same As It Ever Was...Same As It Ever Was...

Of course, the Who's Won't Get Fooled Again also applies...

Amazon is reporting a run on Charlie Brown sweaters...

What the actual fuck? I can see the D getting lit up against a first ballot HOF QB, but Nick Foles? Nick Fucking Foles?

Same as it ever was...JFC...50 years in...

Yep, cue the Talking Heads....

The franchise just can't win the big games, Superbowl or more recently, NFCC games. It seems to be their lot in the grand scheme of the NFL. Eternal bridesmaids. They sucked me in....again. I did wean myself of the NFL Sunday Ticket this year and I'll continue to be bandwagon only. My only choice is to continue to de-emphasize the team's importance in my entertainment cycle. Its the only control I have of this never-ending story and how it always finishes.

Imagine if you are a T-Wolves fan like most of you might be.  They can't win anything.  Yes, they may finally go to the playoffs this  year, but they have won 1 playoff game in their 29 year history.  That's awful.

If you are a Twins fan, yes, there are the 1987 and 1991 World Series titles - they were great.  Yet, they can't beat the Yankees.

If you are a Wild fan, they are 17 years strong, in a league where vitally every team goes to the playoffs.  They have no Stanley Cup appearances and a 25-43 playoff record.

Gophers fan?  They have not won the Big 10 in 56 years.  Thats absurd.  48k students, and they rarely beat anyone of note.

Only the Minnesota Lynx win the title consistently, and few watch them.  A shame, but true.

So, if the better choice is to go to a concert or play, those outcomes are assured (mostly).  You know what you will get.  Sports is a game of chance.  Yes, the team that in August, you thought would finish 7-9 or 8-8, finished 14-4.  They outperformed EVERYONE's wildest expectations, but the coach sucks, the GM sucks, they are cursed, etc.

It is hard to get to the Super Bowl (ask Jacksonville no Super Bowl Appearances in 22 years, Houston Texans - No Super Bowl appearances, Cleveland/Detroit - no Super Bowl Appearances ever.   No wins for Buffalo (4 losses), Carolina (2 losses), Philadelphia (2 losses), Atlanta (2 losses) and Cincy (2 losses)

Maybe other teams are just better.

Did you get sucked-in?   Sure you did, and it was fun.  Admit it, you were giddy all last week.  But, you were not sucked in until December.   Most Viking fans took a wait-and-see approach for many months.  It's okay.

The reality is, this team plays much better at home, with the backing of their fans.  They were built for a turf field, and the defense especially struggles outdoors on grass.  Remember, the Redskins riddled the Viking defense at FedEx field, the Panthers did the same, so did Pittsburgh.  They even struggled a bit on the grass in England.  They always struggle on the long grass at Soldier field.  Even against a depleted Green Bay team in Lambeau in the cold, the defense struggled against the backup QB (he missed open receivers, but they were there)   But, on turf in Atlanta and Detroit, the team looked good.  If they want to correct anything, they should figure out why they don't play well on grass.

So, I know it stings, and the older a Viking fan you are, the more likely you are "done" with them, because how may more winters do you have to wait for a winner.

But, I hope you come back after the pain subsides and realize like our college alma mater (mine is SMU and we got annihilated by a bad team in a Bowl game this year 51-10), we have loyalties.

I will admit, being a bit closer to the team and players, you have a bit more of a tie, because you find people you like. I also like the group in this forum, and hope someday to celebrate with you when the Vikings FINALLY figure out a way to exorcise their demons.

I hear you. But, Jacksonville choked.  New Orleans choked.  The vaunted Rams really choked.

Philadelphia was the better team yesterday - we just made them look better than they should have.

I will tell you Sticky, you are one of my favorite personalities here, and you have been true and loyal to this team.  You absolutely deserve to blow off steam on something that you have spent a lot of time and money into.

New Orleans has won it all, however Tom. Jacksonville played a great game against the best team in the NFL on the road. No doubt that the Eagles were the better team and it appears they are a horrible matchup for the Vikings....which can happen. The Rams weren't ready for the next step. The Vikings have a history of this unfortunately, unlike other teams.

I appreciate the kudos, Tom. Yeah, I'm not so much angry as resigned to my fate as a fan of this team. You can't help but hope it will be different when you get this far and then its the same ol' story. I watched with a big measure of cool detachment as the game progressed.

Sticky,
I agree on the horrible matchup. Peterson proved he could craft a gameplan that Zimmer was not prepared for. A Nick Foles led passing attack that completely confused and befuddled this defense who had no answers to stop it. Once Peterson saw that the Vikings couldn't stop the Foles led air attack, there was no need to run the ball and I think he knew going in that Foles would have to make plays to win. He had a masterful QB performance that none of us expected. He looked more like Keenum than Keenum did yesterday. It was the perfect storm unfortunately.

I wanted to be upset last night but I couldn't. It was too good of a season and not unexpected to have a big meltdown in the finale.  Another beer, some jokes, and all is good.

However I will avoid reading any sports media outside of places like this for a while. Eagles fans will be a fricken pollution on any article for a solid week in comments sections and the bobbleheads will all nod like they're wise sages when they had no clue, blah blah etc.  Doing that does help.

I don't know if it was a combination of injuries affecting multiple players...Elflein, Thielen, Griffen, Rhodes, Sendejo, et al and/or just end-of-the-year being gassed, but they were flatter than the state of Kansas.  Then the O line getting manhandled and Case came back to earth.
As to why they can't "win the big one"?  To quote a buddy of mine back in our heavy partying days, "We're peaking too soon!"  I know every team faces the same injury/scheduling scenario, but just once I'd like to see us healthy and clicking on all cylinders at the right time.  If Philly had lost Wentz/Ertz the week before the playoffs, I don't believe they'd be playing in the SB.  But Foles got just enough work to get comfortable and a healthy Ertz returning to their lineup was huge.
And while long-suffering fans will undoubtedly question their loyalty to this team, I...like many a Meth addict...can't see myself quitting.  I've long ago stopped buying the player jerseys, Sunday Ticket, and other assorted fan gimmicks.  In the meantime, I'll cheer for the Vikes and post my love/frustrations and make fun of the inbred sloths called Puker fans.
But as I get older, the pain for these losses gets fainter and fainter.  I just hope the same pain gets more and more bitter for the players who represent this franchise and serve to drive them this offseason and throughout training camp.  They should not forget this pain anytime soon.
