2nd installment
#1

“Case
fits the vikings scheme due to their great defense. All they've asked from him
this year is to convert key third downs to keep drives going. We have yet to
see him bring the team back from 17 points down like Bree's did. I could easily
see him struggling in a system with a mediocre defense that expects him to
generate 350+ passing yards a game. Additionally the vikings have two of the
best "hands"/YAC receivers in the league. They've made his stats look
good. “.

Please don't
take this wrong because I understand the uncertainty surrounding Case. I have a
little more faith in him because of the 4yrs watching him play at UH. It's
funny how each time he accomplishes something that y'all said, well he hasn't
done this or that, then he goes and does it and the criteria changes. Most
games he hasn't had to come back from a 17 point deficit, of coarse not
counting the losses. It's hard to go undefeated even Bree's and Brady loses
games during the season. I do remember games where he's brought the team back
in the 2nd half. Then when it is needed in the biggest game so far this year he
goes and does it TWICE playing against a HOF QB. Yet he hasn't brought the team
back from a 17 point deficit. Again I get it. You haven't watch him overtake a
30 point deficit in the 4th QUARTER or see him do it over and over again. I've
seen it and have understood his work ethic even as a Freshman and his
unbelievable drive not to lose and that includes any type of games he plays,
Cards basketball board games. I understand it might be a 1yr deal with him
playing on a great team. I do know I will never bet against him achieving his
dreams because he will outwork anybody till he achieves his goals. Most people
would have retired by now because after awhile you see the writing on the wall
that you will never be given a chance to showcase your talent. Being put in in
unwinnable situations, a 2013 Texans team that was falling apart with injuries
and a terrible offensive line that leaked like a sieve. Playing for Jeff Fisher
2yrs. Enough said about that. Being told your the QB then 2 months later the
Rams gave away a Herschel Walker trade to pick Jeff Geoff instead of going and
getting offensive lineman. Case understands his limits and I'm sure during these
past 5yrs he understands what worked in College for him will not work in the
NFL. Case's football intellect is off the chart. He's had to learn 4 different
type of offense in this 5yr period.

I guess the
reason I've started to participate on here is after 4 months of just reading it
is I know Case and Kimberly love it here and they are just good people and as
he has said they are very comfortable here and I can see a very rewarding
relationship with the Vikings and Case if they and the fans understand to put
away what the NFL says is the prototypical QB. Instead understand it doesn't
matter what the package looks like instead realize y'all have a winner even
with the "ducks" he throws. Again as i have said in another thread I
believe he would take less so there is money to pay out to his lineman
receivers defensive people. He's a team player that understand you have to have
the best around you to be successful in this league and I don't blame anyone
that doesn't won't to pay him high dollars. It's just good common sense and
Case isn't afraid of 'Proving It'. As he has said he's been doing it his whole
life.

Apologize to
any person who reads this and goes "man that's the 4th post and it's the
same thing, give it a rest" Lol. I promise to try and have another angle,
now i'm not promising.coffee

I think by now we have a pretty good read on Case. He is well liked, unselfish, hard worker, ballsy, loves the game, ok but not great arm, fearless in the face of a pass rush, moves really well in the pocket to avoid sacks, a natural leader, ....  I think he is still improving but I don't know if there is much room left for improvement or if it is all marginal improvements from now on. He sure is a likeable guy and easy to root for.

Welcome to the board, Cougar! Somehow I missed your other posts so this is a late welcome. I am very torn. I am very sentimental about 2 QBs on our roster, Case and Teddy. I'd love to see them both stay even knowing that they can't both start. It's hard. When you like the player so much as a person but you know there are limitations to their game it is hard to work around your emotions for the player. Honestly, Case's game reminds me quite a bit of Brett Favre, although Brett had a much stronger arm. Both guys would take chances and bet on their teammates and to hell with fearing a mistake. In football, and especially in the playoffs, you have to really trust your teammates and sometimes (like Sunday) you have to do whatever possible to make a play and throw your fear out the window. These are Case's attributes that, for better or worse at times, has made our season what it has come to be. I have sincere doubts that Sam Bradford (for as much arm talent as he has) could have pulled off what Case has this season. Teddy wasn't even able to practice until midway through the season and expecting him to perform like Case has seems pretty impossible. The front office has a huge decision to make in the offseason, not only with these QBs but also in searching for a quality offensive coordinator who can get as much out of our O as Shurmur has.

welcome to the board,  luckily for us these decisions are not left to the fans.  Those of us that have supported Teddy and Sam are not trying to be dicks to Case by pointing out his weaker points,  I think most of us are happy with his results and are very grateful for him being here this year.  As far who is here next year... none of us are even close to having the information that we need to make those arguments.   As far as what he did in college having bearing on pro success we will have to disagree,  plenty of college greats dont amount to jack in the pros,   however his intangibles like his poise, vision, and leadership ability are on level with any pro great I have seen,  he really sees the field well even though I think he does tend to get predictable in his reads and has shown periods of locking onto targets.  I think many of us that are hesitant to say hes the future for our team are basing it on wanting a franchise guy in terms of ability to make all the pro throws against pro coverages,  and not make them so nerve racking by hanging them up for so long... and exhibits all the positive traits that Case has shown us the last few months.   He is the type of person that I want leading my team,  just not convinced yet that his arm (and occasional decision making) is what I want attached to that person.

Im not saying Ted or Sam are worthy of a long term deal right now either,  which again back to my first point... luckily for the team these decisions are not left to us fans.  Once again welcome to the board and feel free to keep pumping up your guy,  he's earned it.

Nice post, Cougar, and welcome.  Case officially won me over just after the Bye week when he kicked a$$ on his form team, the red hot Rams.  He's fearless, well liked, smart, works is ass off, and just makes plays.

Currently the Vikes have 3 QBs, but only one that is proven he can play.  Case is playing at a level that's as good as any of these other guys.  We don't know if Sam or Teddy will even be able to play decently again, but we do know what we have in Case.  I think he's all we need right now, and Sam and Teddy are clearly more risky to sign.

I started a thread several weeks ago about "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".  I think that totally applies to this Viking QB dilemma.

Case is that you??  LOL  Welcome.  I have no inside knowledge but I can't imagine Case not being the starter next year.  I've said it many times.  You don't do what he's done and not get a contract.  Heck in Favres case after the NFCC game they took a jet to the swamp and kidnapped him for the following year.

At this point in my mind its just a matter of how much and how long.  From the Vikings perspective they have to be careful on the contract just in case this is a one year wonder and they have to realize that Case is 30 already.  On Cases's side.  He just threw the greatest MN pass of all time and has a damn good chance to go to the Superbowl so it should be fun to find out what they come up with.

Trust me I understand were your coming from and have no problem with it. You can go to any Pro sports and you will find the Athletes that looks the part of there sport but every now and then you see something that doesn't look right every fiber in body is yelling at you and you wonder how is that person a Pro. Yet they are competitive and you wonder what is different about them. Usually you will never know because it won't shoe up on some chart or metric and it most definitely doesn't pass the eye test. We usually say "they have the IT factor". Something that in our excell sheets and all these metrics we live in now that dictate to us and guide us we leave out one metric that is not measurable and to me just as important then reams of datasheets it is what we usually call  "HEART".
Just like you I have no idea what will happen, i'm just a internet tough guy. :o
Before Sunday would you have believed me if I said Case will get the team in position to win the game not once but twice. I think we both know the answer. You see this is what I've been trying to convey to whoever will listen. Like I have said on another Viking board I understand the doubt. Cougar fans had 4 yrs watching him play and we know when the lights get brighter when the microscope zooms in, that is when you will see the magic Case has. Who would have thought that the defensive back would do what he did. But let's pretend he didn't do that and Diggs is coming down and the defensive back starts to wrap his arms around him trying to tackle him in bounds. You saw where Case had put the ball high and to the back the shoulder. What that did is it gave Diggs momentum heading to the sideline. Giving Diggs maybe just enough momentum to get out of bounds heading up field to get the clock stopped. If the defensive back was able to push Diggs back and they go out the ref wouldn't have stopped the clock. That is if I remember the rule correctly. So Case was giving Diggs all the help he could.  What did his ex-teammates say about him. He doesn't just work hard for himself but he gets his teammates involved.
Just one more. I believe you mentioned what they did in College sometimes don't transfer over to the Pro's. No doubt and I think part of the reason is their Mental state and the coaches that get them 1st right out of College. I'm sure some require new techniques and so on. I believe Case knew he had to make adjustments to be able to get the ball off. Realigning his arm and timing.   Just like 90% of High School players need to redshirt, well maybe not 90% so I'll just say the majority need to. Most all the lineman should just to get their weight up. Getting sidetrack here, back on coarse. It's the same way moving up from College to Pro's. Most need an adjustment to the speed the size more complex playbook with more responsibility. Case was definitely one of them.
The games he started for the Texans his second yr was a train wreck for that organization that had nothing to do with Case's ability as a QB. There's an article that show's how bad the injury problem was in 2013 compared to 2012 . Most of his stats come from playing on awful teams plus no job security. I'll mention one more thing. I believe it was the 2015 season and Case was let go off the practice squad from St. Louis.  He was on some friends land sitting in a deer blind with his Bow when his wife called him telling about the injuries to the QB's on the Texans. A hour later his agent called and they wanted him. It was only 2 games left. He won both of them and almost got them into the Playoffs. He only had 3 days to prepare for his 1st game.
I read some post and I wonder if they ever played balled because they will say how he was so off on that play or he misses wide open receivers.  1st I can guarantee when you get in the film room you will see a lot of open receivers the QB missed. When you're sitting in your recliner watching you are up in the air looking down. You stand were the QB is you have the dynamics of the pocket collapsing and being formed and the QB has to look through some big guys. If a lineman is in the line of sight to that receiver, guess what the QB won't see them.
Case puts the ball on a arc when throwing deep. If you watch the deep throws you will notice the DB doesn't have a chance to intercept unless he goes thru the receiver and gets a penalty. You will notice sometimes he just barely gets the ball to the receiver. I've studied that as much as one can.  What I've found is if  a receiver runs the Routes like Diggs ran, either short, medium or deep. He's trying to get the in same place as Diggs High and to the back Shoulder. What that does it makes the DB stay behind the receiver more and if they decide to try and pick it, and when they come around they're at a bad angle plus it's high which gives the advantage to the receivers and why you have seen all year our Receivers are winning the Jump ball most of the time. I believe that is what Keenum has practiced now for several yrs when he would go look at film and realizing the speed of the game won't let him throw the way he did in College. Now he hasn't changed a thing throwing deep he drops them in right over their shoulders.

That is Case. ok I'll shut up now. I need to get a hold of Case telling him I should be getting paid being his Public Relation liaison.LOL

Welcome, Cougar.  Case has done everything asked of him this wacky season, and I'm sure he never thought he'd be quarterbacking a team for the NFC Championship back in August!
And as you have probably read, everyone has their take on him...strengths and weaknesses.  Too short, sub-NFL arm, et al.  But I watched a video last night where he was invited to speak by a minister in Texas, and in addition to testifying about his faith, he mentioned he's heard all the naysayers re: his lack of physical traits to play QB, but that drives him all the more to excel.
Look at his NFL experience and his improvement prior to Goff being acquired by the Lambs.  Here he was handed a very good team and did more than just "game manage"...he has become the leader of that team.
Who know where he'll be following this season or what the NFL holds for him in the future.  Right now, I'm glad he's at the helm of this playoff ship and, following this past Sunday's dramatics, I'm betting there are 52 other players thinking the same thing!
SKOL!

Was it the one with Dr Ed Young Life Coaches? If it is I watched it today. His faith is the core of who this man is. Being a Christian myself I respect the way he carries himself where he doesn't try to ram it down your throat. He wears it in his words his lifestyle. I'm sure if someone brings it up in a conversation he will open up to that person and share his testimony and faith. Explaining the inner peace a Christian has even when troubles are around you.

Yup.  It was.  It shows a side of Case many don't see in the usual locker room or studio interviews.  It's refreshing to see him admit where his strength and confidence comes from.  Diggs is another that shares his faith freely, too.
