* Since 1990, the Vikings are 3-0 when they start the playoffs with a bye week and have their first game in the Divisional round (wins of Arizona in 1998, New Orleans in 2000 and Dallas in 2009)
* We talked to former Viking QB Sean Salisbury this morning, and he not only thinks Case Keenum has what it takes to win in the playoffs, he thinks he should be among the 5 or 6 guys seriously talked about for MVP of the entire NFL
* While the Patriots, Eagles, and Rams coaches surely deserve being coach of the year, why isn't Mike Zimmer mentioned at all? Most "experts" projected the Viking record to be somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7, not a smothering 13-3.
* Case has gone on record after the game with the Bears as saying he realizes that the Viking offense has not been explosive the last few weeks and said that the bye week is not a week off for him or the offense, but a week to get our act together and regain the explosive form.
* The Vikings played flat agains the Falcons and still handled them pretty easily. The Vikings can score more than 14 points against Atlanta (they scored 14 the first time), but not sure Atlanta can score 20 against the Viking defense.
* The Vikings were tied with Carolina 24-24 with 2 minutes to play. It was a must win game for the Panthers, and the Vikings did not play particularly well, especially with mistakes in run gap containment on defense. However, I like our chances against this team at US Bank Stadium.
* IN week 3, the Lions appeared to have beaten Atlanta on a last second TD by Golden Tate. That TD was reversed on replay. Had it not been, the Lions would have been in the playoffs. They missed the playoffs and Jim Caldwell lost his job because of 1 inch!
* Waiting for the clock to strike midnight and Case Keenum to regress? Well don't, he has found ways to win 12 times this year, and don't forget that Kurt Warner would have never gotten a shot at starting if Franchise QB Trent Green didn't go down. In Case we Trust!
* Vulnerability? In the NFC, 4 of the 6 Playoff teams lost in the final weekend. Rams mailed it in and rested everyone. Eagles played starters for 1 half, and failed to score 1 point at home. Carolina & NO in must win situations, and lost with starters. Minnesota & Atlanta are the only ones to win in week 17.
* Worried about Vikings losing in playoffs? Fair, but the 3 losses were when Case had few reps or prep to play (PITGH), when the star RB blew out his knee (DETROIT) & sucked the wind out of the building, and CAROLINA, where we were tied 24-24 with 2 Min to play. Vikes show up each week to win
* Vikings allowed the 3rd fewest points for the franchise since 1982, giving up 252. Only the 1988 and 1992 teams were more stingy
I have not seen us win a Conference Championship game since I was a teen in 1976. Thats too fucking long. It's time and time now to do it.
That said, I will pivot to the positive; The defense this year has been nothing short of historically amazing. I can't say enough to fans to relish 13/3 and how they got there, it's a unicorn year. No trophy yet, but plenty to like.
I hope this record is indicative that the nucleus of this young team is very good and we should expect excellence and division titles on a forward basis.
Two tough games in front of us to get to that Super Bowl. I cant wait for 1/14!!!
I too have waiting since 1976 to see the Vikes back in the Super Bowl. Having said that I refuse to project what's going to happen this post season, I've experienced way too much heartbreak.
I love this team and am anxiously awaiting the next game, one week at a time is my mantra this go-around.
I remember 1998 an 2009 like they were yesterday, I really went into both of those games thinking no way they'll lose. I've learned to expect the unexpected.
Skol Vikes, let's win the next one!!!

Oops sorry about the the w.t.f. button stupid phone any ways count me in on the waiting since 76 I was only 8 but I don't think I could handle another nice championship game loss I would probably just say fuck it I have meet a lot guys in there late 60'summer plus who have told me over the years they were big viking fans but could not do it anymore after the superb owl loses I hope I don't go that route but it could happen to me but I believe this is finally the year we go to Disney land
I was around for the blow out vs the Raiders in the Super Bowl. I was in middle school, 13 years old and just knew they were going to win it. I hated the Raiders for a long time after that.
Hell, I don’t know where/how this ends, but it has been a fun year. I’ve changed a bit since even the 2009 loss. Maybe it is old age creeping in, or just a big callous built up from the losses. I don’t take the losses too hard or get too high from the wins anymore.
But, I did tell my wife that if the Vikings get to the Super Bowl, win or lose, I’m most likely going to cry when that game ends.

We were the same age for SB XI. It got so tiring to see us fail so badly on the big stage. I was too young to remember SB IV, in SB XIII, we were crushed and never in it. The one we should and could have won was SB IX. Pittsburgh did not play well on offense outside of Franco Harris. Steeler defense was tough, but Fran was awful that day, as he was for all 3 Super Bowls he played in.
Talking to Eller, Page and Marshall, it is Super Bowl XI they regret most. They really thought they had the team to win it. The Brent McClanahan fumble on the Raider 2 yard line with the score at 0-0 took everything out of the team and just deflated them.
Who'd have thought, we'd wait 41 years to even have a chance to appear in SB again.

LOL We had a chance in 1998 and 2009.
We haven't won a playoff game yet!

We won a Divisional game in 09. vs Dallas, it was one of my favorite and more memorable games @ Metrodome.
As far as the Raiders/Vikings SB? That to me is the game we stood the least chance to win. Vikings were past their prime and it showed the way the Raiders handled our defense. Our DL was outmanned tremendously by Shell, Upshaw and gang. I thought our best chance was actually vs Pittsburgh.

1998 hurt me. 2009 put me on life support. This one might end my NFL experience.
It will be time to walk away. I will watch them and cheer for them in super bowls until I die. I can't handle the rest.
