Film review: Keenum’s been called a ‘gunslinger,’ but quick reads have keyed success
#1
In the second half of the Minnesota Vikings’ 14-9 win over the Atlanta Falcons, they dominated possession of the ball, at one point killing more than eight minutes of the clock on a single drive. At the center of their success was Pat Shurmur’s play calling and Case Keenum’s ability to make reads both pre and post snap.http://www.1500espn.com/vikings-2/2017/12/film-review-keenums-called-gunslinger-quick-reads-keyed-success/

I know there's countless stories of Bulger and other back-up's who've fooled NFL front offices, there's still 25% of the season to go and a whole post season narrative to unfold.

But unless something awful happens? I don't see how signing Case (and Shurmur) next season isn't a top priority.

Not a silly contract mind you, but one that benefits us and gives Keenum some reward too. I like what Barr called out in another thread...Something Glennon like?

Per Rapoport, the deal includes a guaranteed $18.5 million over three years, with Schefter adding the total deal will be worth $45 million. On Friday morning, Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com reported that "Glennon's three-year, $45 million deal is basically a one-year, $16 million with team options for 2018 and '19."

Every week one talking head or another is encouraging teams in need of a HC to grab Shurmur from the Vikings (suggesting he will take Keenum as his QB) and get their team started right.  I would say they are high priority signings for the Vikings. Not sure which one is more important.

34:02 time of possession for Minnesota compared to 25:58 for the Falcons.

This has been a key to their success. Victories against LA, Detroit and Atlanta. Washington was an anomaly because of the Vikings scoring quickly in bunches and the two second half INTs by Keenum.

always fun to look at these in depth.  Love the first play, the o-line creating a throwing lane and Keenum firing a short safe pass to get the drive started.  The Falcons were intent on taking away the deep stuff and limiting Diggs and Thielen.  So our game plan was to use long methodical drives with runs and short passes to take what was there.

Shurmur is the key IMO.  He is creating the matchups to make us successful.  Keenum has been playing within that system very well as of late.  He has grown and improved as a QB this year and I am excited as ever for the playoffs.

Could have been more...NFL network was previewing the Saints Falcons...there were a couple instances where Thielen beat his man for potential long gains...that being said, way more often than not Keenum has been very good with his reads...

I keep finding these time of possession stats crazy. It sure didnt feel like we were in our way to a 10 minute difference through the first half.

Is there a 1st half / 2nd half split for time of possession? ... just curious.
