Josh Gordon Says He Had Something in System for 'Probably Every Game' of Career
#1
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon said "he's had something in his system for 'probably every game of his career,'" per Clay Skipper of GQ.
Skipper noted the news in a Monday profile, pointing out Gordon hasn't played a game since the 2014 season and missed 51 of Cleveland's last 56 contests "because of struggles with substance abuse."
Gordon has played 35 games for the Browns, all in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons.
This news comes after the Browns announced he will report to the team Tuesday.
Having something in his system while playing didn't stop Gordon from tallying impressive numbers. He played all 16 games as a rookie in 2012 and posted 805 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions and then appeared well on his way to superstardom with 1,646 receiving yards and nine touchdown catches in 2013.

probably not a way to endear himself back into the good graces of goodell.   i am sure the league knows he is a pot head screw up,  but to openly comment on how often he was using is just mocking the league substance abuse policy publicly.

He didn't say he was smoking weed before games, did he?  I'd guess if he had "something in his system", it probably wasn't pot.  Maybe, but that just seems counter productive by making him tired and hungry.  B)

Wouldn't you think he's popping pills like "speed" or some other type of stimulant?

he didnt necessarily say it was a pre game thing,  just that it was likely still in his system.  as far as I know all hes ever been popped for was pot.

That wasn't the best statement to make but not at all surprised by him saying this. He clearly hasn't learned a thing. And some people wanted him on this team. I respect and appreciate the talent but I don't want to have that hot mess here. He pissed his talent and opportunities away and won't take responsibility for it. Nope don't want that. It's a risk reward scenario. But the risk outweighs any possible reward.

hes not a lockerroom issue from the sounds of it, so i would say the reward may outweigh the risk if he still had top level skills.  however... I wouldnt want the media distraction that would come from having him here unless there was a great assurance of him being clean for real.

Gotcha, I misinterpreted that a bit.  Weed doesn't get completely flushed out for several days or a few weeks for heavy users, so this probably isn't that surprising.

I just think that ship has sailed and it's not worth. He could be a good teammate but he comes across as completely clueless by saying this. Seriously? He may be looking for attention but this isn't the right kind of attention if he actually wanted to play.

I disagree. Part of most substance abuse programs involves public admission of private wrongdoings. Many people get trapped in the cycle because, like he mentioned, nobody seemed to know how bad it was nor how he was doing it. He admitted way more than was generally known; people who are trying to hide tend to only admit small portions to appear contrite. By going through everything in a way that everyone knows it, you put more scrutiny on yourself to allow for better accountability. It's actually a biblical principle co-opted by treatment paradigms.

With all that said, I'd still prefer if he wasn't on the Vikings. I like the receivers they have right now.

It isn't in the best interests of his career to say this, no doubt. But I know a couple of young people who are fond of pot - too fond IMO but that's another discussion - and I hear a lot of comments which are convinced that this country is inevitably destined to be pot-friendly and even self-righteous about people and institutions which are seen as backwards to that "destiny". So Gordon might have that attitude and feel it is his "duty" to tell the NFL its efforts are largely ineffective and holding back the future he thinks is just around the corner.

Maybe that future will happen, but not overnight. 8 states with legal recreational use still means 42 without, not to mention still criminalized at the federal level, and any effort to get it allowed by employers is hardly begun and will take even longer. Meanwhile people like Gordon waste years of their lives being mad that America isn't their marijuana utopia yet. I'm not actually opposed to occasional pot use, but people denying reality about it disgusts me. Sorry to stray from the core topic, it's a bit too close to home.
