Flores inked
#1
Eagan, Minn. – The Minnesota Vikings announced today Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores has signed a contract extension.
In Flores' first three seasons leading Minnesota's defense (2023-25), the Vikings have limited their opponents to 19.2 points per game (second-fewest league wide) and 317.1 yards per game, including 5.1 yards per play (fourth). Opponents have averaged just 105.4 rushing yards per game (fifth) against the Vikings defense during Flores' tenure, including a league-low 3.9 yards per rush since 2023. Minnesota has totaled the second-most forced fumbles in the NFL with 52, and the fifth-most defensive takeaways with 73, including 61 fumble recoveries (fifth) and 43 interceptions. The Vikings have allowed just 147 plays of 20+ yards over the past three seasons, the fewest league wide since Flores took ownership of the defense.

It’s my understanding he signed with the understanding that he could possibly still get either the Ravens or Steelers head coaching jobs. Comp picks secured in that case I guess…

Same brain...I was thinking the exact same thing. Seems nuts that the Vikings would not get comp picks because Flo was not technically under contract, but maybe the team heard otherwise and moved accordingly.

Glad he is signed. Don't see him getting a HC job, glad he is our DC

It's a good start. It'll feel better when the HC jobs seal up.

The extension is a formality, so if he is hired, Vikings get 2 comp picks.

I hope he stays, but this development makes me wonder if he's going to be hired away as a head coach.

Yep. Love that part if BFlo ends up in Pitt as the HC. Decent picks I believe also?

Two 3rd round comp picks.

A formality but still, a good one. I'd assume Flores was asking for a high signing bonus/lots of up-front money since he and his agent understand the Vikings 1. want him around and 2. are buying not just his services, but two third round picks.

Whatever it took I'm glad the team did it. So the possible picks are secured. Now hopefully he or at the very least Jones are in the fold next year too!
