They've squandered some opportunities the last few years (happily), but I think it is Superbowl or bust this year for the Lions. They're a talented team and one Kevin O'Connell can't seem to beat (along with the rest of the league). As mentioned in another thread, I think Minnesota closed the talent gap with them but still isn't quite there. No easy game for the Vikings in the NFCN.

Snake bit and squandered oppty's. They are still absolutely in their window though. Some fantastic drafting and personnel decisions.
Hard for me to hate on em; I'd root for them over Eagles, Packers, Saints or Cowboys for sure.
Its time to at least split with these guys - thats a door KOC needs to knock down...
That and actually do something in the playoffs besides stamping a ticket.

They'll have a 2nd round rookie starting at center this year. They also have Marcus Davenport starting at one end. In other words, whoever is behind him will be the starter most of the season. They also lost both coordinators. So not invincible.
I'd say their QB is better, their RBs and DBs are way better, as are their off ball linebackers. I give us the edge at schemes, WR and DL (if you include our edges). TE is a tie and OL is very close as well.

I wonder how the team responds to their meathead coach if things don't go well to start the season? They lost bad in the playoffs, got worse in the offseason and lost both coordinators. I wouldn't be surprised if they take a huge step back.

I think last year was super bowl or bust. If they’re successful this year, that’ll show that Campbell is more the straw that stirs the drink than the coordinators were and they’ll have a window that’s longer than this year.

Some good takes in this thread! I also am a bit skeptical on Detroit this year until I see what they look like without the OC and DC. They have the talent though so I think they'll at least be a good team. Maybe great.
Hand up. When Dan Campbell got hired I did not think he would do nearly this well. He may very well keep surprising me. Really hope KO and the Vikes can get over on Detroit this season. Both teams look solid.

Did he do well? he had one bad year, then Johnson took over the offense and they had one 9-8 year and two very good years. I remain skeptical.

You never know whats going to happen when a coordinator or position coach leaves.
It really killed the Vikings when Shurmur left and again when Sparano died at just 56 yrs old.
Other times? Not so much. Zimmer went through OC's like some people go through socks.
I think filling the shoes of Ben Johnson will be difficult. I wasn't as high on Glenn, but he had a great game plan vs Darnold/KOC.
But boy, they are loaded with talent. That'll make any coaches job a bit easier.

Imagine the Vikings lost both coordinators and 5? assistants.
And they also lost their all pro interior offensive lineman (ragnow =Hutchison) unexpectedly and in his prime at age 29.....
That's gonna show up on game day, it just will.

For the DETROIT LIONS-- yeah I'd say he's done very well.
I like our own coach better and the aggression on Fourth Downs would drive me mad but I can't argue his results.
