I'll take this from Donovan Jackson all day long...

Dependable, consistent and solid. A step below elite probably but a step above average definitely. A 'really good' player at OG for 10 years. He's not going to fuck up majorly. A guy that does his job every single game. Please and thank you.

I'll settle for "not a bust." Anything beyond that is gravy.

Oh my, is this how far we've fallen with all the bad KAM drafting?

We have to set the bar higher than that!!

Nothing to do with KAM and everything to do with the draft. Over half of the players taken in the 1st round of every draft is either a complete bust or fails to live up to expectations. There's a lot of gray in the data (what is a hit, what is a miss?), but according to Draft Wire, roughly 40% of 1st rounders get 2nd contracts with the team that drafted them.

It's why people should be happier about the 2023 draft than they are, and why I'll be stoked if Jackson simply defies the odds and turns into a competent starter.

The problem is this with KAM as of right now: the Vikings have the 2nd fewest starts (in the league) from rookies over the last 3 or so years. And its a problem that could start really hurting them as soon as next season. BUT....as mentioned previously, if he hits on JJM, Turner, Blackmon, Jackson and Felton we'll all have a good laugh at what we USED to think about his drafting in the future.

It's the stink of that first draft that still sticks to him and something that is going to be hard to shake for a while. That bust of a draft and the overall lack of draft picks that are starters or major contributors over the last three seasons has put us in a spot where we've had to fill roster holes via free agency, but that's not going to set the team up long term. We are now one of the older teams in the league after this free agency plunge. It's all about the development of McCarthy, Dallas Turner, and Donovan Jackson.

Regarding rookie starts, the short and simple reason for that is that the 2022 draft really fucked us, especially when you consider how many picks we had. Those players should all be in contract years. No 2nd rounder in 2023 puts a big dent in the rookie starts too, but you can find those starts in Hockenson. Then we obviously used a lot of our day-two picks in 2024 and 2025 to maneuver into JJM and Turner. So yeah, your bottom line is right on. It's incomplete and could still go either way. But I'm optimistic about Blackmon, JJM, Turner and Jackson.

I think if JJM looks good and one of Blackmon, Turner, Jackson look like a quality contributor, along with Addison already being good, that’ll change public opinion pretty quickly. I think there’s a lot of small sample size going on, due to not having as many high picks and guys not being on the field.

I agree with your conclusion,  but not how you came to it.   The comment about not busting isnt about KAM,  its about a decade + of shit drafting at the IOL spots,  as well as refusing to prioritize it in FA and the promising seasons that we have seen derailed by inferior play from our OL.... this deficiency predates KAM by a long ways...

40% of first rounders getting a 2nd deal with their draft team... IMO that doesnt mean much,  sure if we draft well we want to resign them all, but teams that draft well are typically better performing teams with stars that eat a lot of cap space, not to mention if you do have a better grasp on finding talent,  you likely believe that you dont need to over pay FAs to fill certain holes,  that you can find replacements in the draft and thus saving that cap space to keep your real stars at key positions fat and happy contract wise.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?
