SI.com's Breer: An honest discussion about Shedeur Sanders
#1
https://www.si.com/nfl/nfl-draft-takeawa...ur-sanders

Well said. Of course he's an entitled player with overinflated self worth, this is what people have been telling him. And he's got some real holes in his game that don't appear a great match for NFL play. Some excerpts:

"We do have a couple of examples:

A lot of times in combine meetings, teams will have a player’s worst plays ready for him when he enters the room and, along those lines, one had a particularly rough interception teed up for Sanders in Indianapolis. When asked to explain it, Sanders didn’t take blame. And as they dove deeper into it, and how it might relate to the NFL level, Sanders simply concluded that maybe he and the staff he was talking to might not be a match.

Ahead of another visit, he got an install with mistakes intentionally planted in it—done to see if a quarterback would catch them. Sanders didn’t catch them. A coach called him on it, and the resulting exchange wasn’t pretty. And I think this is why teams saw Sanders carrying out what his father, Colorado coach Deion Sanders, said he would in trying to steer himself away from certain places. The idea, for a top pick, isn’t the worst concept. It’s something Eli Manning did a generation ago. The problem is that Sanders wasn’t considered the prospect he was built up to be by the people who matter—the ones who were doing the picking over the weekend."

Drew Brees was quoted as saying the game for an NFL QB is 70/30 mental vs. physical traits.

Shedeur's daddy didn't play QB and was known to rely on physical ability and not study much. Also a big personality. I think all this adds up to sonny boy not realizing what's required of an NFL QB to succeed. Running your mouth and being a media star ain't the foundation.

But whenever some underwhelming QB needs a lifeline, apparently Jimmy Haslam shows up like Clark Kent and saves the day. Wink

p.s. And he's got an uphill battle to even make the Browns and be on the team come September. Cleveland really likes Dillon Gabriel and expect them to be way more invested in his development than Sanders.

I wouldn't exactly say that though.  Shedeur has talent.  Its why he was projected to go as high as he was.  His issue was his dad saying they were going to dictate who picked him and himself for not taking the visits or the study part of the job seriously enough.  The Browns had already picked another QB in the draft.  Do I think Haslam stepped in and said he wanted the organization to get him,  absolutely.  Is there anything wrong with that,  no.   The kid has talent, he just needs to get his head screwed on right.  He will be in a situation where he is not expected to start but to learn,  and see if he can handle the mental rigors of being an NFL QB.  If he can't he will be cut as any other late 5th round pick would be.   Haslam, is effectively stating as his organization stated,  Shedeurs value was being mispriced due to outside influences irrespective of his ability to play football.  We know he can play football, is he now willing to put the work in to be successful at the NFL level.  Nothing is going to be given to him.  It will be a bit of a circus this summer but after that he will be hidden away most likely.  I will actually take exception to stating Deion doesn't work,  I think Deion has worked his tail off even in the NFL or as a coach.  Yes his persona does overshadow it,  but lets not minimize the effort he has put into programs.  He appears to be turning around Colorado and getting them back to bowls, after a complete rebuild.  So was Haslam willing to take a lotto ticket and see if it can pay off into either better draft capital in the future with a trade,  or giving them a long term QB option for a 5th round draft pick.  Absolutely.  As someone who does a lot of investing its smart.  You are just waiting for sentiment to change.  I would have been ok on a value basis had we used our 5th on Sanders.  The issue is the circus at the vikings would have been worse and not worth possibly affecting McCarthy.  Next year is the year the browns were loading up for QB.  If they hit this year on either of the 2 QB's they pick they have a lot of picks to develop the roster.  To me it was a smart pick, now we will just wait and see if it pans out.

I have said since day 1 that I didnt see the hype in Sanders game, I always thought he was being grossly over valued, with that said, look back at what the niners gave up to draft the kid from North Dakota, and then think about all the other reaches at QB over the years. I think most of us said Sanders was going to need to sit somewhere and marinate if there was any chance... I would say he went about where he should have and only time will tell.

Classic example of overplaying your hand. Take a bow Nico Iamaleava, Shedeur Sanders and Jax Ulbrich. Narcissism is on the rise.

So did Christian Ponder.

Errr, ok. Johnny Football, DeShaun Watson, now this. Stefanski and Berry looked like they swallowed a glass of vomit. Haslam had Baker Mayfield and had to let him to go to Tampa to actually find success. You're not exactly hard-selling this.

Who said that? I said he didn't study much, that was known about him. It's not a secret or an undeserved shot. It's reality.

Anyhow good luck with the Shedeur program, whatever and wherever it goes.

So the Brownies have what? 4 or 5 QB's in camp now?

Outside of Watson, they may have only $10mm invested in the lot of em.

Indeed, I think they are gearing-up for QB in 26. If they get one in the hand now?

Win/win for them.

Various things I’ve heard on NFL radio draft weekend:

Apparently he took a zoom call during a team meeting.

Daboll sent him an install package that Sanders didn’t prep for. When Daboll coached him up on how he failed the install and what he should have done Sanders didn’t take to kindly to the coaching.

As bad as the Giants meeting went apparently the Jets meeting was WORSE. No specifies were presented other than Sanders informing the Jets that this probably wasn’t a good fit for him.

There’s entitlement then there’s this absurd bull shit. If I’m Joe Flacco I’m spending the first two weeks of training camp having Sanders carry my pads after practice.
