Compensation update: Patriots are trading QB Joe Milton and a 7th-round pick to the Cowboys in exchange for Dallas’ compensatory 5th-round pick, per sources.

I like that trade for the Cowboys especially with Dak being so inconsistent. Milton has a huge arm and a high ceiling. He looked pretty good in limited action last year. The ideal developmental QB, someone that would do really well with someone like KOC, most likely will not get the coaching he needs in Dallas.

With the Cowboys trading for Joe Milton, @ColinCowherd wants to know why Jerry Jones keeps giving away draft picks for players that never make an impact.

Indeed.

The game has passed him by. Colin is probably referring to Johnathan Mingo who they drastically overpaid for. Stephan either can’t stand up to dad or he’s just incompetent. Cowboys constantly overpay their FAs by waiting a year too long.

Milton lost his starting job in Michigan, then lost his starting job in Tennessee. MB and I talked about him a bit last year. He liked him a lot more than I did. I would have tried to convince him to switch to TE.

He only lost his starting job due to an injury at TN and then Hooker came in and lit it up, Milton ending up getting the starting job back when Hooker got hurt and had a great 2023 season taking them to a bowl game win.  Last year he played in a  game against Buffalo late in the season and was 22-29 for 241 yards with a TD and no picks I have been a fan since he was at TN and so watched that game and thought he looked very impressive, especially considering it was his first game action, certainly looked like a NFL QB and not at TE.  Put on a show at the NFL combine last year with his arm strength.  Definitely someone with a lot of potential and worth taking a shot on.

Playing Buffalo second string. Pffft.

Just ridiculous, so those were not NFL players?  Just like he "lost" his starting spot at TN and he should be a TE.  Okay, got it.

Milton is exactly the type of QB that will always get chances....until he doesn't if you know what I mean. He's a physical marvel, but what other QBs in the NFL or its history like him have succeeded in a substantial way? None. Its ultimately Fool's Gold, but its not like this was some blockbuster trade. Worth a shot I suppose.....the Cowboys gave up more to get Trey Lance. If Dallas didn't trade for him, some other team definitely would have.

I think it was the senior bowl. He drops back, flushed immediately to his left. He’s got tons of green grass in front of him. Instead he airmails a throw to a RB two yards in front of him. Horrific accuracy. Comically bad decision making.

He’ll probably fare well in preseason vs vanilla schemes against 2nd and 3rd string guys as well as future UFL castoffs. He could be Logan Thomas with a position switch.
