#1

Thats a good find Sticky...

I may sing a different tune by end of mos, but I dont think the Vikings have a choice anymore but to minimally tag Sam.

The fanbase and media would skewer them if they didnt.

Tag is 100% going to happen no matter what. I think the only thing that will happen, is what will teams offer us for Darnold. I think the media is looking at it all wrong. I think teams will call and see what it would take for Darnold, no JJ.

I don't know how you can be 100% sure about anything at this point.

Because the tag gives us all the leverage. Tag him and then figure it out from there.

I dont think there would be much immediate skewering as most likely our season ends with a loss which will change many of the cheerleaders positions, but if JJM didnt step in next fall and keep the train rolling,  then the calls for KAMs head would be deafening.  JJM still has a lot of love.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I love the idea of an elite guy on a rook contract. I'm just not sure (yet) what we have in JJM.

We gotta figure that out...

We do have the advantage of an enormous game this week followed by hopefully multiple playoff games for further evaluation on Darnold. He has already shown enough to make the Vikes have to seriously consider resigning him, however he can really make it impossible for them not to over the next month.

I agree with this.  A month or two ago, when the franchise tag was first being floated about as a viable option...the franchise tag amount of $41mm sounded outrageously high, considering we were leveraging a $10mm one year contract to a hometown discount of maybe 3 years/$100mm (or whatever Baker Mayfield signed for on his resurrection tour in Tampa Bay).

However, he continues to perform at a very high level, to where that is sounding like a bargain.  To compare:

Dak Prescott: $60 million per year
Joe Burrow: $55 million per year
Trevor Lawrence: $55 million per year
Jordan Love: $55 million per year
Tua Tagovailoa: $53.1 million per year
Jared Goff: $53 million per year
Justin Herbert: $52.5 million per year
Lamar Jackson: $52 million per year
Jalen Hurts: $51 million per year
Kyler Murray: $46.1 million per year

Tag him and let JJM get some healthy on-field time so that he can truly be evaluated.
