Nothing definitive here, but I'm on board with this. While I love Bynum and think he's earned a top safety salary, I'm also a big believer in spending money efficiently. In other words, spend big at more impactful positions (QB, Edge, Corner and OT) and spend small on less impactful positions (safety, IOL).

This wouldn't surprise me either.

Murphy Jr is someone in their secondary that they'll try keep and he's going to get paid.

I have re-thought how I think about the S position. I actually think its grown in importance over time with how the league has evolved. Those guys are really hybrids of LB/CB now and have to be stout, fast and smart.

Hell, I am still mad they passed on Hamilton.

Harry is going to be gone as will Gilmore and maybe BMJ leaves for a bag at 27. I really want to keep Bynum against that backdrop.

Metellus is due to make $3.8M (Sportrac) next season. Bynum is going to sign for substantially more than that either with the Vikings or another team. A case can be made that Metellus is more important to the defense. It's hard to justify paying Bynum more. If you resign Bynum, extending Metellus who will be a FA in 2026 at a significant salary bump most likely becomes necessary. That's a lot of cap designated for the Safety position. The team does have Theo Jackson & Jay Ward waiting in the wings.

I hope we bring Bynum back. He's a great locker room guy and brings a special energy to the defense and the team. He's like Brian Robison that way... And Aaron Jones was for the Packers. Those special glue guys that make a long NFL season fun even in Week 17 and 18 are guys you need.

I am soooo salty about Hamilton. He was and is a man crush of mine. When we were on the clock I was surprised. When we traded out I turned off the TV. First time ever that I’ve quit on a draft. It was such a layup and we gave Det their receiver instead.

It may go down in history as badly as Disco Darren over Marcus Allen.

Or - Alexander over Warren Sapp.

Very good point...

We can guarantee a downgrade in D celebrations for sure.
