Just pay him like a HC to take the money out of the equation for him. KOC seems like a very level headed guy and should understand the situation and not get jealous of a subordinate making HC money as long as it helps keep his team competitive.

I think it would be well deserved, given his first year coaching record (13-4) and surviving last year's injury debacle...and so far two games this year when the pundits picked us at 6.5 games? I think we can all see what kind of person, coach, evangelist, mentor that he is. And these kinds of coaches don't just grow on trees. Look at the dysfunctional Zimmer, look around the league the last several years to see whose been flushed out, and to see who remains today on the hot seat.

The good ones are a very short list. I think KOC has earned the right to be on that short list.

Yep, couldn't agree more.

Flores was reported to have made $3M his last season with the Dolphins. Up until then, he was rumored to have only been paid $500k. I'm guessing the Vikings will sign O'Connell to around the same range as McDermott, LaFleur and Reich which is $6M per year. If Flores took a head coaching job, it would likely be in the lower range for head coaches (given the unknowns) so $2-3M. Sign him to $3M per year. It's a win-win.

Is this an actual report, or is this just a "hey we can all see he's doing well these last two games, so it will likely happen, and I'm just calling it early"

Doogie is pretty looped in @ Eagan, so there is some smoke there at the least.

I was kinda surprised though cause Mark Wilf was pretty transparent about no extensions will be decided in 24.

I guess transparent like a lawyer or politician.

They can back the truck up for Flo and they could also consider giving him an assistant HC title too. Unless that upsets KOC and/or Phillips.

Insider says contract extension 'coming' for Kevin O'Connell

Kevin O'Connell has arguably done more for his own personal stock than anyone through the first two weeks of the season. Despite the early success and a 22-14 record as head coach of the Vikings, O'Connell still hasn't been handed a contract extension.

KSTP's Darren Wolfson said on Tuesday's Mackey & Judd Show that O'Connell's contract situation is progressing and that a deal is "coming."

"I'm telling you, it's coming," Wolfson said. "It's just a little weird to me, based on what took place in Miami with Mike McDaniel, that it hasn't happened quite yet."

O'Connell's initial four-year deal signed in February 2022 expires at the conclusion of the 2025 season. Back in August, Vikings co-owner Mark Wilf said extension talks would not be happening this season, simply saying, "We’re focused on the season ahead."

Presumably, a successful season in 2024, would see extensions dished out to both O'Connell on general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who are both in the third year of four-year deals.

O'Connell, for his part, has sidestepped the question about his contract when brought up, telling reporters in August that "I'm very much focused on the task at hand and doing my job every single day, looking for any way I can be better for this organization and this team."

I hope KOC is here for a long long time. Like Pittsburg type length. He’s good enough. He’s done more than enough without good players. He’s doing even better now.

If JJM flops, I don’t want it to result in KOC losing his job. The man deserves to be here.

No real need to do it now, but it will get done by the end of the season. If you don't extend him, who would you find to replace him? Like Montana Tom said he's a good one. I happen to think he is a special one. One of the top in the league right now. He and Flores are the top reason I am so bullish on the Vikings this year. Marry that coaching with the talent they have, and I expect them to have a competitive season.
