I'll toss it out there: JJ @ 5 or Penix @11?

Thats assuming Penix drops to 11 and someone doesnt snipe him @ 6-10. I can absolutely see the Bears trading down @ 9!

I just don’t see JJ in the top 5 but he will go top 15 i would bet!  Penix could-also be top 10 now.

I would rather a short move up no earlier than 7 as I’ve said many times.

Top 5 value would be Caleb, Jaden or Drake.
Too 10 value penix/JJM

I’m really hoping for JJM or Penix at 11, then we can get an impact player at 23, or restock the depth with a trade down

Penix all day. How is JJ any different then any of these QB's drafted in the 1st round.

  1. EJ Manuel (2013)
  2. Blake Bortles (2014)
  3. Johnny Manziel (2014)
  4. Teddy Bridgewater (2014)
  5. Jameis Winston (2015)
  6. Marcus Mariota (2015)
  7. Carson Wentz (2016)
  8. Paxton Lynch (2016)
  9. Mitch Trubisky (2017)
  10. Sam Darnold (2018)
  11. Josh Rosen (2018)
  12. Daniel Jones (2019)
  13. Dwayne Haskins (2019)
  14. Zach Wilson (2021)
  15. Trey Lance (2021)
  16. Justin Fields (2021)
  17. Mac Jones (2021)
  18. Kenny Pickett (2022)

JJ Mac. I'd be pretty happy with Penix at 11, but mostly because it means we keep 23. I like Penix. I just don't think he fits what we do as much as Drake and JJ.

You aren't sure until you Draft him, just like anyone else. You look at guys like Rosen, Wentz, Darnold, Jones, Wilson, Trubisky, etc. and its just like fuck me, so many busts. Is JJM potentially one of them? Sure, like Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, etc. But again, if you hit the jackpot, its a franchise changer. Its a tough decision. I prefer JJM above Penix, but not by a ton. But JJM's ceiling is high, it's enticing.

You can't just name all the bad QBs and ask how they'd be better? Nobody knows. Heck all 6 could be worse than the list you supplied. There's no crystal ball that says whomever gets picked will succeed.

These are all the bad QB's in the first round over 10 years. If its all a crap shoot then.. sit at 11 and take who comes to you. Reason I like Maye or Daniels more it Daniels is mobile and passed alot in college so we have a better sample size. I like Maye because he is big with a strong arm and can edure the beating coming his way. JJ has a very small sample sized. Was never relied on to pass. Not to mention he has a slender build.

How is Penix any different than those guys?  Let's face it, all the rookie QBs we're discussing have some degree of downside.  It's tough to make any bold statements about any of them.  That said, I think Minnesota has the best coaching staff and supporting cast to help whichever rookie QB we take.  Hopefully we get the right one, he develops quickly, and we don't have to worry about the position for the next decade or more.

Daniels is even skinnier/leaner than McCarthy and he runs a heck of a lot more.  I like Daniels, but he's built like a taller Lamar Jackson who's missed games every season with injuries.  It wouldn't surprise me to see Daniels only make it through 12-15 games every season unless he leans to protect himself better when he runs.

Yeah you can't just list busts and then tongue in cheek ask how QB X is different.

Any or all of them could bust. It comes down to, do you trust our coaches or not? If they move up for a QB and get that guy, do you believe he'll be good in time? If not then you probably have a larger issue with the direction of the team and are wanting a massive overhaul after only two years of the new regime.

Would rather have Nix at 11, Penix has a high ceiling if he is able to stay healthy, which is something he has not been able to do, he has been consistently banged up. I think you have to take swing on the more durable player when you are drafting that high. I would only take Penix at 23 if we were to miss on the other 5.
