2024 Edge/DL Watch
#1
Dallas Turner, Laiatu Latu and Jared Verse are bunched together in the 8 to 15 range. I've watched all three and it's hard to pick a favorite. But I think Verse might be a little stronger than the other two and has a better inside and bull rush as a result.

Latu's neck injury scares me. The Combine medicals are going to be big for him. I've seen Verse compared to George Karlaftis who I liked in the 2022 draft. He was drafted 30th overall by KC.

Karlaftis has been solid. The 22 and 21 drafts for KC were ridiculous, with Karlaftis and McDuffie last year and Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith the year before.

Sounds like Darius Robinson could be a lot closer to the top three edges than most early projections had him. Kiper calls him the hottest player in the draft right now, saying he could even go top 10. Probably more of a 4-3 DE type.

He really did look good at the senior bowl. Will be interesting to see how far he moves up.

I'm a Dallas Tunner guy. I think he's got special bend and ability as a pass rusher. Long arms. Also he's only 21 (two years younger than Verse or Latu). Based on early evaluations, I'd probably stack my defensive board like this;

1. Turner
2. Byron Murphy
3. Verse

If we lose Hunter, this sure becomes a HUGE need.

I'd so much rather be pairing one of these guys with Danielle vs hoping for a 4-6 sack season from a rook.

I hope we have a good idea on if we are going to be able to bring him back or not. If not, I'd at least like to see Wonnum brought back to give us some juice at least on one side. He looked good last year and really nailed down that other starting spot.

The progress that Wonnum has made so far in his injury rehab is going to be the biggest factor in deciding his contract term. If he's close to 100%, then he'll receive offers for multiple years & the higher bonuses that accompany it. If he's not progressing, then he may have to settle for a one year prove it contract.

Who knows, maybe Davenport comes back? I just read today that we will absorb a 6.8 million cap hit for him if an extension is not agreed upon by tonight. He did look good the one game he played
