Unaware of OT rules change

we were just taking about this at work,  I see Shanahans approach of wanting the ball first when it goes to sudden death,  but I think knowing exactly what you need on your first possession and having 4 downs to get a first or a score as opposed to 3 once in scoring range tips the scale that way.  I would much rather have the extra down and knowing exactly what I needed to do to win.

But they should still know the rules in the biggest game of the year. This is absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing

does it change their job?   I dont see how it does,  now if the guy out there calling the coin flip, or the coaches calling the plays and making the game decisions dont know, that would be embarrassing.

Knowing the rules or not knowing the rules, taking the ball first or not it still came down to the 49er's inability to make a stop on 4th down in overtime to win the game.  Make a stop and game over.

I think all the players should know all the rules.  It’s like a bare minimum to being called a
professional.  Did it change anything
since the coaching staff knew the rules?  Hopefully not, but I have to think there’s got
to be a different level of confidence between a player who actually knows the
rules and guys who just found out that they were playing a game that had
different rules than what they had thought, and the NFL is largely a game of
confidence.

Regarding the actual decision, I have to imagine that the
advantage of knowing whether you are in 3 down territory vs 4 down territory
has got to be greater than the sudden death advantage.  Regardless, I still think this is a
half-assed rule change.  Is it better
than the old way?  Absolutely.  The old sudden death rules were very
biased.  Is it good?  I guess the idea that both teams picked
different strategies is good, but I just don’t like the idea that it should ever
end in sudden death.

Most rules get changed in the NFL because the Vikings somehow got screwed by them, but yes on this occation OT seemed fair to me.  Each team should get the ball regardless of the circumstances.

I dont know how much of a miss that was by Shannie or not?

All I know is that The 49'ers out-played the Chiefs for 2 1/2 quarters.

Like I just heard on the radio, if you dont put a spike in Dracula when you had the chance? You are in trouble

Especially when Dracula wears #15.

I dont like that it goes to sudden death after each team has one crack at it,  I would prefer to see it alternate possessions until one team outscores the other,  although I am not sure what could be done to neutralize that 4th down advantage that one team has,  its already huge getting to know what you need to match,  but then getting extra opportunities to do it?

I think the players who are saying this are morons who are throwing Shanahan under the bus. The issue seems to be they didn't know the Chiefs would still get a shot at it if they scored, how do you not know that?  It was pretty well advertised that the rule was changed after what happened in the Chiefs/Bills game a few years ago.  Not sure how do not know that and if weren't aware of the rule then how about you ask one of your coaches before OT?
