Would you give a 2nd rounder for Fields?
#1

Local sports radio was talking today that its looking more likely that Chicago will take Caleb with the #1 pick.

They will need to move Fields.

2nd rounder could get it done, not that the Bears would trade him here.

Food for thought and to kill some time b4 FA.

no thanks,  I want our own project,  not someone that has already been beat to death and proven unworthy.  or are you hoping that if we turn it over to Fields that he can net us a top 10 pick that we can then use on  our own QBOTF?

I think the kid has QB2 as a future,  I dont give up draft picks for a back up QB.

From a causal observer I would say no. If some QB guru can convince me otherwise I would take a gamble .. not the 43 pick over all though

I seriously doubt they will get a trade partner asking for a 2nd.

even so, the concern is would they trade within the division,  my question is if they are convinced he is done,  why would we send a 2nd round pick within the division for a flyer on a QB that isnt likely to make the jump to the next level and only leave us with one year to decide if he will before he can leave as a FA and we get at best a 3rd round pick back.  I just dont see this as a smart move.

Definitely 3rd day pick at best. He might have all the physical tools, but his judgement is VERY lacking, and I don't know if he's coachable.

I posted in another thread about Fields shortly before you made this one. My answer is yes.

Of the people saying hell no, what if- hypothetically- Kirk is gone. Signs somewhere else, retires, whatever. He’s out. Does that change your answer?

My first move would be trying to trade up for Maye or Daniels but now let’s say that’s not an option either (Very likely).

That leaves us with Russell Wilson, a dude off the scrap heap, or Mccarthy/Nix/Penix as starter for next season.

Frankly Fields sounds a heckuva lot safer to me than any of those guys. The one thing that would give me pause on Fields isn’t him, it’s actually us. We have weapons but can KO tailor his offense to a QB like Fields? 3 months ago I’d have said definitely but after how this season went now I’m not as certain.

I like McCarthy a lot and will be happy if the Vikings draft him. But most of what this franchise has done for the past 20 years tells me they won’t start a rookie at QB Week 1. The Vikings will choose the safer option almost every time. So I think Fields is very much in play for us if Chicago will do it. He’s a fun player.

Or you could end-up with a guy like Minshew and let a tier 2 rook QB marinate a for a season.

That'll have to be the case if Kirko leaves in March.

That'll sell a lot of tickets.

Yeah, that’s kind of what I’m saying. Do people think Fields sucks? I still like his potential. Do people really think he’s that much worse than scrap heap + Tier 2 rookie? Longterm the latter choice could work out better but it’s riskier, and since when has this team taken a risk at the QB position? Signing Favre in 09 and drafting Culpepper are probably the only two times I can think of in 30 years. History says the Vikings won’t do that. In a lot of ways they’d be better off tanking than going the scrap heap route, but history says they won’t do that either. I won’t be surprised or upset if Fields is a Viking.

Especially if the goal is to improve next year then I think adding Fields + DT in 1st, EDGE/CB later might work. Resign Hunter, JJ, and Hicks this offseason and let’s get to work! Next offseason we have all our picks, a ton of cash, and possibly a longterm answer at QB.

You think selling tickets is an issue, or even really much of a concern?  I haven't heard of the threat of a black out in years in MN.
