CBS Sports Brinson: 'This is going to be a wild draft'

I think if Minnesota can't trade down, a WRer is going to be the pick. I think that position will be the BPA at #12. And Thielen will be 32 years old before the season starts. I know what KAM said about McCardell saying don't take a WRer and being unselfish, etc. but if there was ever a smokescreen being put out there, that was it.

Everything seems to scream trade down. And I think they'll find a buyer. But I agree that WR could have the most value at 12 if they can't. The question is, will they take one? Seems unlikely to me.

I think Geoff has it right and they leapfrog Washington and get one of the DBs.

I agree it has merit. I think KAM's philosophy is to move up for the right value. It just depends if the compensation isn't overvalued to make the play.

I've always had the theory if you are going to spend picks or players to get 1 player....he better be damn special.  If/when KAM moves up for. player ,   that player gets held to a higher standard when evaluating the GM IMO.  If he moves up it better be a solid pick,  not a bunch of question marks.

I think this strategy is self evident, right? You move up, you give up something so the value needs to be higher. More scrutiny. That player will need to perform. You know, like Mitch Trubisky.  :p

Man, that is just so hard to see. Sure, anything's possible, but here's what argues against it:

1. Data shows that trading down typically nets more value. Our guy is a data guy.
2. New regime with a defense to build and holes to fill. We should be accumulating picks, not trading them.
3. Moving up at the top of the draft is super expensive. Just to move to 8 will cost our 3rd rounder. And we have no 4th.

Yea, I think this might be the perfect draft for us to trade down and get more lottery chances.  I would move up for Sauce if he falls into the 8-9 range but not either of the other two CB's.

Hoping we can slide down and still get one of our Top targets and more picks like last year.  Not an advocate for a move up this year.

Agreed. I’d be happy staying at 12 and taking a WR. Then if Booth, Elam, or maybe even Cine are still around in the mid/late-20s I’d start making calls on the cost to move up.

I won’t be that mad if we move up in the first for Stingley, just surprised.

EDIT- Just looked through Brinson’s mock… Ouch! If it falls like this I hope the Vikings take Hamilton but having no shot at the top 2 CBs, top 2 WRs, or even Jordan Davis would stink. Hopefully teams draft OL in front of us.

I usually hold my tongue around draft time because I am so ill-informed about college football but I can't see Kyle Hamilton dropping to #19.   In this particular CBS Mock, I would be hugely disappointed if the Vikings picked London over Hamilton.

Also, as a data guy, I think KAM realizes that college ball is turning out more and more solid wide receivers -- I see the NFL going into a wide receiver "bubble."
