J C Tretter Released by Browns
#1
A center w/ an anchor- go get him… this seems like a no brainer to me!

Browns will release JC Tretterhttps://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/03/15/browns-will-release-jc-tretter/Vikings Can Now Fix OL Misery with Stroke of a PenThis theoretical move — Tretter to Minnesota — makes all of the sense in the damn world. Garrett Bradbury has not panned out at center, performing admirably in run-blocking but often bullied via pass protection. Tretter doesn’t do bullying.

A former Packer, Tretter was drafted in 2014 out of the 3rd Round by Green Bay. He hasn’t missed a football game in six years. Durability is a skillset for Tretter. Here’s his Pro Football Focus track record:
  • 2014 = 51.6
  • 2015 = 76.2
  • 2016 = 78.2
  • 2017 = 69.1
  • 2018 = 76.9
  • 2019 = 72.0
  • 2020 = 77.1
  • 2021 = 78.7
Unlike most Vikings offensive linemen not named Brian O’Neill, Tretter’s strength is pass-blocking. Pass-blocking is his modus operandi. He has not endured a PFF pass-blocking grade south of 80.0 since 2015. It’s incredible.

I think it makes a lot of sense as well. He's consistent and good in pass blocking, two things Bradbury is not.

Makes too much sense, so they will sign a backup dt instead.

Tretter would take our weakest link and turn it into a strength.

Tretter in the middle of the line, with Davis or a FA OL playing RG you should have a quality to overall good OL which would be drastically different than the last 5 years.

Hunter and Adam's cap savings (whenever this gets done) would be the capital to get Tretter signed.

Go to the draft looking for a starting OLB/DE and CB in the first 2 rounds.

i have a gut feeling Tretter has a deal in place with another team long before our cap situation would allow us to go shopping.  besides,  Kirk says he likes GBs butt sweat and cant imagine going into this season without GB dripping all over his hands,  so I mean,  what are you gonna do,  you have to go with GB dont you?

Yep. Those savings along with some from Kendricks, Cook, and Harry Smith would be enough to sign a quality CB or LB too. Gotta get these done as they have to be under the cap by what, tomorrow? This is taking way too damn long and they need to get it done so that we can be more aggressive with the FA's

With the cap situation and other holes to fill there is no way they are going to sign Tretter.  Add the fact that Bradbury is under contract it doesn't make financial sense for such a signing.

Doesn't make financial sense to pay an immobile QB and not put equal effort into protecting him so he can do the job you are paying him to do.
