How Slim are the Pickens going to be?
#1
I'm talking about the quality and quantity of coaches available to complete a staff?

Am hearing the Vikings are protecting some assistants to give KOC a choice on who to keep or not

We got 10 more days till the SB is played and just 8 weeks till the combine

So not only do you have to find able bodies and minds, but you gotta align on type of players, position priorities etc.

Its not going to be easy for KOC to get this thing off the ground.

O'Connell blew the search committee away with his preparation, his full evaluation of the roster and his plan on how he would move forward.  I am very confident that a guy this organized and strategic already has a coaching wishlist 5-10 candidates deep for each position and has already reached out to each one.  I wouldn't be surprised if half his staff has already been determined.

there will be alot of talent out there. The only big loss was Ficken but you cant blame him for not waiting.

Mccardell is well respected so hes abou the only one left that i would really like to keep.

Interesting that Dre has hung out, im thinking he has already been promised a job doing something or he would  be gone.

Back to the first point, there are some talented position coaches in SD, Cincy and others that will likely fit KOC’s style.

Not sure the pickings will be that slim as I'm positive he's reached out to people he's interested in. We just don't know who that is yet.

There was a list on one of these threads of several coaches from the rams that he wants to bring with him,  I am pretty sure they are already talking and most likely he knows of he's got them or not.

With Kevin O'Connell going to Vikings, I keep hearing Mike Pettine as the likely DC there

#Vikings coach in waiting Kevin O'Connell's father was a longtime FBI agent. "The FBI guys, they're secretive. They don't say anything. They can't disclose all their information,'' said Chuck Long, O'Connell's coach at San Diego State.

He could tell you, but he'd have to kill you.

Not sure how I feel about this. He's had some good defenses, but all I can remember him for lately is making that dumb call for the Packers letting Miller loose 1 on 1 against the Bucs a couple years ago. IIRC, he got slammed by his own team for that.

Well if you think Mike Zimmer is a good defensive coordinator, then you should be fine with Pettine. How many defensive breakdowns have the Vikings had with Z at the helm? Its more about the players these guys have on D than anything. Its funny how good players on O and D make or break the coordinators.
