Who wants the new HC to bring in a 3-4?

Specifically, a two gap 3-4. I've always thought it's easier to find edge rushers for a 3-4 than classic DEs in a 4-3.

Pierce at the NT, DT at DT, Watts at the DE. Wonnum and Hunter on the edge. Draft a guy like Chenell for the other ILB and Beaver for depth.

I could roll with that.

All based on personnel and who we can get in the draft. Should have ran a 3-4 once we drafted Barr but we all know that.

I thought we'd run more TITE after all the talk in preseason. Oh well.

My thought on that is this; Danielle Hunter is your best defensive player by far and he is one of the 5 best DE's in the league and has had huge success. Do you really want to stand him up or have him drop back into coverage as a 3-4 OLB? Despite his status as an athlete...I would not. I would guess Wonnum would also struggle with that transition.

I think Hunter could be Chandler Jones in a 3-4. They've stood him up at various times in his career, zone blitzed, etc. Not a stretch. Same with Wonnum.

Also, 8 games out of the last 33 for Hunter. Not sure we want to hitch our future to a guy who, as someone aptly stated, might be turning into David Boston.

...or he could be Jadeveon Clowney who was like a fish out of water trying to play the OLB in Houston. It's a gamble, but you know when healthy Hunter is one of the best pure DE's in football. Wonnum just doesn't look or move like a 3-4 OLB. Willikes, maybe...Barr, definitely. Also we tried tinkering with some 3-4 looks at the beginning of the year with Zimmer abandoning what he did best with the double A gap blitz's. The results were not good, and yes the results weren't good with anything defensively this year...but I still would be reluctant to make that big of a scheme switch when we have some good pieces in place already

Don't care either way.  Make the defense good enough, however it needs to get done.
