In 17', Case had magic in that locker room. Per Kramer, they should have ran it back one more year with Case and drafted a QB early for competition. This would have freed up money to spend an OL that was only a piece or two away from being good enough for a super bowl. The Cousins signing, like Zim had stated, was going to be the beginning of the end if they did it wrong.
Lamar Jackson and his cheap rookie contract, with his extending drives running ability was there at 30# in 2018.
Imagine, 2019, starting Jackson (19' unanimous MVP btw) surrounded by Diggs, Adam, Rudy, Cook, Mattison covering up for an average OL protected by a top 5 defense.
No. The Vikings were in their window and you don't run it back with a proven backup QB when you're in your window. There's no way Case would have repeated those numbers. The right decision was made and it hasnt worked out like the 60 other years for this team.

Touchdown Tommy had a soft spot for Keenum. But he caught lightning in a bottle, the Vikings knew it and it proved to be the case when he moved on. All this hindsight can be done every year for most teams, its an easy game to play.

It's not about hindsight. It's about cash management. Signing Cousins versus keeping Case ($10-12 million less for a one year deal) and drafting a replacement was a bad idea if you had garbage on the OL (which we was the predominant experience under Spielman).
Zim was winning with Teddy and Case, he knew that he didn't need a fantasy football QB to win it all. Signing a .500 QB for a guaranteed contract to come in was a reactionary play by a GM who was historically a bad reactionary manager (Yannick, Herndon, Bradford).

Vikings had a lot of shit go right for them that season.....and they were one 'Minnesota Miracle' from getting knocked out of the playoffs at home as a one-and-done. Case wasn't going to repeat his performance the following year and Teddy had the catastrophic injury so they took a swing. And you generally need a pretty good QB to win the Superbowl.

The right decision was made, you mean the one that failed the organization and the men who made it? The team created its window by having a team, not a team lead by a mercenary who's contract would hamstring the rest of the roster. I don't think we needed Case to repeat his numbers in 2018 for us to be successful. Drafting a QB to take the reigns would have been the smartest move to keeping the 52 other positions stacked.
And what greatness would Keenum had to achieve to do as well as Kirk? Choke in week 17 vs your rival AT HOME, playing their back ups, and miss the playoffs.
There's definitely something to be said for having the right guy in the locker room, and Cousins definitely is not that guy, but the horseshoe fell out of Case's ass.

Yep, from a locker room perspective....more than likely. But it can't be said he's not talented, tough and accurate. But the big swing that the Vikings took with Cousins' contract hasn't panned out, there's no debating that.

That's Zimmer showed he couldn't adapt.The team was winning, but with a style of football that he didn't like. Instead of embracing it, he throws the guy under the bus. Telling reporters that he's just lucky.

So Kirk is solely to blame? We are playing that game again? Maybe the team could have not wasted all that money on Barr? Maybe they could have realized Rudolph was slow as shit and was only a blocker or red zone TE two years before they let him walk? Maybe the team could have hired a better OL coach for to help the OL that has been bottom 10 since 2017.
53 players on the roster. I dont know about you but I recall scoring 7 points in the NFC Championship Game vs Philly so they went and got the best QB on the market. You were probably a mad fan when Kirk threw that dime to Thielen to beat the Saints a couple of years ago.
