"Complicit" and "Flexibility" are my takeaways. Gotta have another team willing to play ball, and if not, they retain flexibility at both 11 and 23. I sure hope they do NOT trade up.

i totally could see denver and the bears swapping picks making it likely that at least 4 QBs are gone in the top 10. possibly 5 if the giants grab one. I dont know if it will happen, but there is a possibility you could see 6 QBs off the board in the top 12 to 15 picks.

Per@SeifertESPN, the #Vikings have made "deep plans" on rookie QB prospects, however, they've also been "preparing" on riding with Sam Darnold in 2024 and looking ahead to the 2025 QB class as a potential option
"On the other, they're preparing for the possibility of riding with offseason free agent addition Sam Darnold in 2024 and then regrouping with either a quarterback drafted with a lower pick or perhaps a look ahead to the 2025 class." _________ I think the Vikings trade up for their guy, but if they don't get him, this makes it sound like they would not reach for a lesser QB as a fallback. Yes, this is very likely just smoke they hope the rest of the NFL breathes in. But I could see them doing this. And in some ways, drafting two defensive players at 11 and 23 is not a terrible thing. Just don't tell Justin Jefferson I guess.

And I hate to keep "beating the dead horse" but again, if we end up in a scenario where we don't land a QB this year and start Darnold....what good was the "competitive rebuild" and what did we benefit by retaining tradable commodities just to stay on a competitive level without contending? To me it just continues to play out as an utterly ridiculous rebuild strategy that's reduced options for us.

I honestly don’t think KAM can afford to go into the year with anything less than Penix/Nix. As little as I personally like those two, they probably buy him a couple years and MIGHT salvage the Jefferson situation.
If they honestly go into the season with Darnold and someone like Rattler/Milton, I don’t think there’s any way JJ re-signs and things are gonna get real ugly, real quick. I don’t care how much cap space they have in 2025…the Vikings will be a team with an offensive head coach with absolutely nothing positive on the horizon on that side of the ball.

At this point...as much as Penix's injury history makes me nervous, I'd be fine with him or Nix with the picks we have...especially #23. If we could get a blue-chip defender or Harrison at #11, that's gravy.
I don't want us packaging 3 firsts for a kid that will have too many unfair expectations on him. The truth is, even Mahomes needs the great line play, great coaching, and those players throughout the team that make the plays at the right times; he may get the glory, but he wouldn't be taking last season's Chargers to a championship. As much as I hate this time of year, with a billion mock drafts and twice as many rumors per team, what I hate most is the tunnel-vision BS on signal-callers. YES, he's the most important player on the offense, and YES, he's got to lead, execute, read, make light-speed decisions, etc etc etc...but, that's not in a vacuum, and the wrong system/support players will mean mediocre results. Count Josh Allen's rings. Burrow's. Andrew Luck's. Herbert's. Hell...Darnold's. I'm all for changing that last, though. It takes so much to even be a consistent competitor, and I think that gets lost in draft hoopla every single year.

Quote: @Zanary said:I tend to agree. With the Giants drafting ahead of us and Denver and Las Vegas after us at 11 (Denver will definitely be drafting a QB), I am not convinced that Penix or Nix will both / either be available at 23. I do NOT want to package both first rounders and move up a few spots. I think that is insane. Be smart at QBOTF and pick a DL. Like you said...those other top QBs don't make a Super Bowl winner. You need a full team.

I would wager a large bet none of the 6 QB's will be available near 23. IF you have a willing trade partner? Trust your process? You go for it. To quote @MB - no one will give a s hit about a #1 in 25 if you hit on your QBOTF for the next 10 seasons in 24 My bigger concern in April is that they wont have a willing trade partner ala 23. |
