Saints' OT Ryan Ramczyk is signing a five-year, $90 million extension that includes $60 million guaranteed and makes him the new highest-paid right tackle in football, source tells ESPN.
Hmmm. Not sure O'Neill is the quality of Ramczyk. In fact, he's not but he's going to get paid.
16 to 18 a year is where I was expecting ONeil to come in so this doesnt surprise me much.

No, O'Neill is not on the same level. At least not yet. RyRam was all rookie and then all pro the last three seasons. O'Neill is a good quality right tackle, but he should not see those kind of numbers.

True. Ramczyk is the gold standard, at least in the NFC. But, O'Neill has given up 5 sacks in 3 years. He's going to get paid in the neighborhood of what Ramczyk got, but definitely less.

Contracts only go up, so it's possible he gets in the neighborhood. But ideally, we get a early-contract discount for O'Neill due to the fact that he's yet to be recognized as a top tackle. He ranks 30th by PFF among 64 starting tackles. Then as we improve his surround (hopefully to the level that RyRam enjoys), we get top 10 to 15 performance at a big discount. Call it the Hunter Plan. :-) Or the Diggs Plan. Or the Kendricks Plan. Rick and Rob seem to be very good at timing their contract extensions.

The Thielen Plan had to be torn up and renegotiated.
