Mike Mayock was always the worst among draft analysts. Admittedly, the best TV face who sounded like he knew what he was talking about--and we all LOVED listening to him. But he was easily the worst among those who knew what they were talking about. And the Raiders HIRED HIM! As GM??!! That just blows my mind.

In fairness to Mayock, Gruden runs that ship and has final say over everything. So how many of these decisions are actually being made by Mayock...nobody will ever know.

That's just patently false. Mayock's take on players was generally head and shoulders better than the "gurus" over at espn, and was a major reason why the nfl network gained credibility for their combine/draft day coverage. Kiper and the pretty boy McShay are and have been clickbait useless for more than a decade. Don't even get me started on the likes of Orlovsky, who might have legitimate brain damage.

So not just false, but PATENTLY false? Damn. :-)
Remember, I said that Mayock was the worst among those who KNOW what they’re talking about. I don’t really put Kiper and McShay in that category. Kiper gets hammered because he’s an easy target and his lego snap-on hair, but he’s no worse than any of the other media scouts…of which there must be hundreds now. Make a site, share an opinion and it's remarkable how many will think you know what you're talking about. McShay is just a joke.

Among those who know what they’re talking about, yes, I thought Mayock was the worst. He was just wrong so often it became a bit of a joke among draftniks. But nobody ever held him accountable for it. Well, they are now.

LOL... I guess we could argue about moving goal posts, but that seems unnecessary, and way too obvious. Point being, Mayock was in commercial real estate for nearly 20 years and then a sports commentator to varying degrees for another 20 or so. Not much of his background (besides his 7 games as a player in the league 40 yrs. ago) differentiates him and the guys we consider jokes. Thing is Mayock would give his reasons for a pick and not bash others for disagreeing or seeing things slightly different. Overall, I think he was just better at it, lisp and all.

So I don't really know who you're putting Mayock up against or what criteria you're using for your disdain for him. As far as matching players to teams in draft order, in real time, I think about everyone bats about .260-.300.
