And maybe that is what they should be doing considering his contract, his production and the fact they have zero in the QB pipeline. I think the organization feels they can win with Kirk if he gets protection and the defense is better in 2021. I'm starting to think they will not grab a QB in this upcoming Draft. Honestly, Cousins has been an ironman under center so that thought process has merit.
We'll see, but the immediate focus is going to be turning this team around to the playoffs for next year. I'm certain the franchise feels that's doable.
If he gets better protection and if they move forward to a more modern offense. They have to take off the training wheels and let it rip, otherwise they won't progress.
I think you're probably right. As I have said several times, let's get super aggressive this draft and make it so all of our picks are in the first four rounds. Address OL, DL, and Safety and then add depth at WR, TE, or LB

We were 14th in passing and 5th in rushing this year.
We were also 4th in total offense. We were only 16 yards per game behind the top team in Kansas City.
Cousis and the offense didnt screw the pooch this year. If Zimmer is to remain coach he needs to figure out WTF went wrong on defense and fix it. The offense is playing at a playoff caliber level.
Cousins is a top third QB. You don't just toss that aside for a roll at the craps table, potentially setting the franchise back years and wasting the primes of players like Cook, Jefferson, Hunter, etc.
Now, do you draft a QB to sit and learn for a year or two? Maybe, but I don't think you do it if an impact player who can help you win now is on the board.

There are definitely issues on defense. The offense is an issue because of the over emphasis on the run game. Those stats that you mentioned are great but winning is the stat that needs improvement. The emphasis on the run and the offense showing up in the second half puts them behind. They need to improve the two minute drill and clock management. Both sides of the ball need improvement. The defense is a huge unknown at this point. Get a guard. Cousins has faced a lot of pressure and needs protection. I don't have any expectations for the defense next year because of the unknowns of Hunter and Pierce. Hoping for better though. Use the tight ends and receivers more.

Om my gosh, that's an easy one!
All baby DB's
No Hunter
No Pierce
No Barr
No Kendricks (too often)

Everything here I agree with...
HOWEVER, if they LOVE one of the QB's? Go and get em
I dont know how many chapters are left in the KC book?

I'm not ragging on you, Maroon... because what you say is logical in theory. But I find it funny that all these issues with Cousins have seem to evaporated because people are just looking at his final stat line and overlooking how he performed against the good teams we played this season.
He singlehandedly lost us the GB game when this young defense was doing everything it could to keep us in that game in the first half. He threw some AWFUL interceptions in the first half and got some garbage stats in the second half when we were down multiple scores. Then in Indy same thing, some awful turnovers that led to another lopsided TOP, and we didn't score a single TD until the 4th quarter if I remember right.
The Atlanta game was a debacle by Cousins, he didn't play well in either Chicago game despite us winning one of them. We only beat the Packers because Dalvin went nuts. We struggled against Jacksonville... I guess I just don't see him being the future here.
His cap number is going to prevent us from fielding a great team around him the next two years. If the Vikings really love one of these young QBs, they should absolutely take him. I think Lance would be an ideal pick. Tremendous upside, but probably needs a year on the bench.
There is not a more impactful player than a QB in today's NFL. The Vikings need to find one to take over for Cousins at the end of his contract. I was all in on signing Cousins because I thought the same thing... good QB that you can win a Super Bowl with if you have the right pieces around him. The Vikings just weren't able to capitalize on our window and frankly Cousins play the last three years factors into that. I've seen enough, 1 playoff appearances in 3 seasons looks an awful lot like his career in Washington. I don't think he has it... and the Vikings would be smart to start looking for their next guy behind center.

A draft with 5+ potential first round QB's and us picking before 20 does not happen when we want or need. You have to seize upon the opportunity like the Bills and Chiefs did. Now if we evaluate all the QB's and find our guy I want an aggressive move up to secure. With no second rounder we have very little chance after our 14th pick.
I usually never disagree with your posts but this same approach to "this" offseason I disagree with. This draft situation is an opportunity we have not had in a long while - IMO. For the most part, we will probably never know even after this upcoming draft anyway. The brass will just say we took the best player regardless of position and we didn't rate any QB worthy etc.
Of course, broken record- I am ready to move on from Zimmer. In 7 full seasons I have seen enough average. Everyone talks about is Cousins good enough to get us to and win a SB but what about Zimmer? I really don't think so his teams have been jekyl and hyde from game to game.
