MANNION . . . why is the QB position the only one that has a non threat backup
#1
Mannion is a terrible NFL QB.  What other position on the team do we purposely not place a potential threat to take the starting job?  Fuck Spielman and his hard on for this midwest milquetoast BUM.
GO out and sign Kaep, give him 3 games to sit the bench and give him the back half of the season to start.  We need a QB with legs and BALLS to throw it.  Not to wait wait wait, be scared, throw

Arguably both guard positions & you could throw in safety, actually at DT & OG we have no starters or backups...  Confused

I don't disagree about guards, but DT we signed Pierce and have spent draft capital on DL (Holmes, Johnson, Wonnum, Lynch) and how do you add more talent to the safety group of an All Pro and an up and coming stud

Pierce hasn’t seen the field, Wonnum is a DE, Lynch has potential but our DT’s get no penetration & can’t stop the run. As for safety, we have zero capable backups if one of our all world safety’s gets hurt or ejected...

You are missing the point of the OP.  It was WHY haven't we added a THREAT to the starter, a threat.  Kirk can't have a guy looking over his shoulder, it's obvious.  We hitched our franchise future to a guy who can't have a threat behind him.

why In the world would we Sign Kap in hopes of salvaging a doomed season?  Let this crap show of a season play out and get a rookie in the draft please NoT another washed up retread.  if we are going to lose lets lose big Cousins is not a leader and not clutch.

Agree...Kap  is not the answer for no amount of reasons or excuses.  His days are long gone...

Another spot with no threatening backup: Head Coach. If the Wilfs woke up tomorrow and said, "Time for a change", who takes over? Sure, they can plug in Kubiak or Capers but their days are in the past (like Zimmer).

As for QB, that's been Spielman's approach forever. He signs backups that are cheap and won't threaten the starter - it's as if something has made him terrified of any risk that fans might boo the starting QB and call for the promising young backup to get a chance.

Bc coaches are still coaching for their careers that is why.  Season might be doomed, but trying whatever you can to win, including making a switch at QB is important to coaches not fans.  That's why it should be plausible . . . now we have a weirdo whack GM who will do whatever he can to protect his crowning jewel of an investment . .  Cousins
