Safety Depth
#1
After the Vikings made their cuts, they had a clear lack of depth at safety. A few days later and the situation hasn't changed. Maybe they missed out on waiver claims or trades, but being thin at safety is a big concern. I'm assuming that Harrison Hand is probably the next man up at free safety and you could maybe use Troy Dye at strong safety, but I am curious what you guys think the Vikings will do to resolve their safety situation?

I think the roster is still in flux, even though Packers are just 6 days away.

Agree S depth is a big concern, as is LB too.

Try— I have exactly the same question.  I keep checking in here to get the latest update and haven’t seen anything posted yet.  There are 3-4 quality Safeties out there.

I think they will sign a vet safety next week when the salary is not guaranteed

I think they are gambling for the first game (probably have Metellus active under the new rules) and sign someone after the first game (so the contract is not guaranteed for the year).

7 WR's is just nuts. But the fact that we are up against the cap doesn't change the fact that we aren't bringing in anyone with experience without dumping someone with experience.

There is a good chance that Smith or Harris could get banged up and have to leave for a play or two.  Happens all the time.

I am unawares of who else has been practicing at safety but if one or the other does leave temporarily then Rodgers will likely target the replacement.

They could be waiting until next week to sign someone because the contract will not be guaranteed as others have already mentioned.

But players like HaHa and Demarious likely will not accept a deal that is not fully guaranteed especially since it will only be for about 1 mil.

Their agents probably will reject a non guaranteed deal for established starters.

It seems like the Vikings are either cheap or smarter than the rest of the teams in the NFL that are carrying 4 safeties.

i would tend to think that Hughes or possibly Boyd is the emergency safety

I think I read at one time that Boyd was getting reps at safety.

I wonder if maybe they go big nickle if Smith or Harris get dinged, I wouldn’t mind seeing Troy Dye getting some snaps
