Wither Weatherly?
#1
Free-agent DE Stephen Weatherly has interest in returning to the #Vikings but said his camp hasn’t heard anything from the team. “It’s on the Vikings at this point if that makes sense. I don’t know what my future holds. … I don’t have anything in front of me.’’

WTF?  Why wouldn't the team at least be looking at a low market offer for a young and promising player they have developed?

I think you answered your own question. Since he is not going to get a top of market offer you need to explore your ability to resign Everson or another top-end pass rusher. They won't have room for both.

Griff had a good year,   but there is room for improvement as well as the teams need to cut the cap to make improvements at bigger positions of need.

We definitely have some really tough decisions ahead. Grif really had a great bounce back year and is a vocal leader on a team seriously lacking in that department. Weatherly was a bit disappointing for me, but Odenigbo definitely made up for that. I think in this case, it's more important to maximize the short term and go with the proven guy.

Weatherly did seem to step back,  but how much of that is due to the resurgence of Gruff and the emergence of vowels?  only so many snaps per practice and game and if you are down on the depth chart your output will likely suffer.  I still think the kid has a lot of potential if used more.

Odenigbo is the reason the team won't pursue Weatherly very hard.  I really like Weatherly, he fits the bill and he's smart.  I mean real smart, but he he and Odenigbo are about the same age and are competing for the same job.  Something has to give.

most likely,  but does it?   I think a good rotation with DEs kicking inside on pass plays is deadly and will only make our starters more effective.  I kind of doubt Weatherly breaks the bank in terms of offers to match if we get the option... but I could be wrong.
