Based on Zim's comments, doesn't sound promising.

Mike Zimmer on #Vikings UFA Anthony Harris, who tied NFL lead with six INTs in reg season:

"I love Anthony. If he doesn't come back, I think he's earned everything he's got, but if you put up the positions most important on defense it's probably not going to be safety."

Not promising. He is all but saying that the position isnt one of need or of importance. 3T and CBs seem to be of importance to Zim.

I agree with Z, safety isn't the most important defensive position. Have to make some hard decisions. I'm sure they would love to have him back in a perfect world but Minnesota's cap is anything but. So when doing their team planning I'm sure he's not even being considered as an option to return considering what he'll get in FA.

Boy, I was going to sleep easier assuming a step down in CB but having Harry and Harris back there. I don't like the thought of degrading CB and S.

If they lose Ant that means this guy has a better chance of being a Viking:

Smokescreen. Trust nothing this time of year.

Could be Zimmer countering Rick's recent glowing quote about him...  It's negotiation time with coaches, GMs, and agents in Indianapolis for the Combine.

I'll say this though...  if we bring back Griff, restructure Linval and Rhodes, and let Harris, Alexander, Waynes, and Weatherly walk...  we will be making a big mistake.

We should be replacing our old high dollar vets with the younger talent we've developed to take over these positions on the team.

I don't think it's necessarily a smokescreen or negotiating. It's just the truth. Everyone knows it. $22M to $25M going to your safety position, with almost nothing going to corner, is just not going to be successful.

Personally, I'd take Harris over Harry, but that's not likely. I think we're a better team if we use Harris' money (plus some) to sign a top corner like Byron Jones and then draft a safety to compete with (more likely replace) Sendejo in the 2nd round.  Just think thats a little better roster construction.
