What Do You Do When You Can't Beat Ohio State?

An offshore book listed Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh as a 3/1 favorite to be the next head coach of the Carolina Panthers.Harbaugh and former OSU HC Urban Meyer (6/1) are both listed as serious candidates, at least by the odds. We'll believe it when we see it. The pressure and disappointment of UM's inability to hurdle Ohio State for a Playoff spot has mounted every season since Harbaugh took the job in Ann Arbor a few years back, but there have presumably been any number of opportunities for him to jump ship if he wanted to in the interim, and he has yet to budge.

He likes to make those splashy entrances so I could totally see this.

And he wouldn't have to buy new khaki pants

You have two jobs as the Michigan head coach. Beat Michigan State and beat Ohio State. We're still waiting Harbaugh!

National writers outside of Michigan keep falling in the same post hole every damn year with these stupid prognostications. They have no insight about the intricacies and dynamics of what it would mean to make that change. Purely wishful thinking for dramatic effect on the part of the media. Harbaugh will have to be fired, cuz he ain't bleeding Carolina blue...

He's pretty tied to MIchigan as an alumnus and via his dad who coached for Schembechler.   Also the Wolverines were 5-7 prior to his arrival and he immediately won 10 games.  I'm not sure how you beat Ohio State, their team is just a cut above everyone else right now.

There's no doubt they have a more talented and skilled team. It's just been soooo long.

And the narrative about beating Ohio State is missing this important element: usually that means beating the best team in the country. Its not like beating Iowa. Michigan has higher entrance standards, its a much more prestigious academic school. Its like asking Auburn to beat Alabama and being pissed when it doesn't happen. It just so happens Michigan's greatest rival is also one of the top 3 best college teams every single year. The Buckeyes recruits are near the top of the list every season.
