Sloter saves the day again LOL
#11
Luckily the game was televised here in AZ and got to watch it.  One thing I really watched was the play between Mannion and Sloter.  First,  Both played the majority of the time behind the exact same offensive linemen.  Secondly, They both played against the AZ defense, which I notice basically had the same players on the field that both our quarterbacks faced.  Sloter looked sharp as usual and Mannion looked slow and sluggish.  Maybe Sloter doesn't always get the offense in the right formation or manages the clock, but the kid produces.  Mannion might be a lot more football smart, but it doesn't seem to translate to the field.

Vikings would be fools for trading Sloter.

But if you want a comp of preseason star trades, here are a few: Former 4th rounder and preseason star QB Rob Johnson had started ONE game in 3 seasons for the Jags when the Bills gave up a 1st rounder for him. Preseason star Brett Favre was drafted by the Falcons in the 2nd round in 1991. A year later Mike Holmgren gave the Falcons a 1st rounder in what was seen at the time as a big victory by the....Falcons.

But the best one I can think of is Tony Romo. Romo was undrafted and had played 3 seasons in Dallas as the 3rd string QB all three years (Sloter is in his 3rd season). By the time he entered his 4th season he had yet to play a single snap in the regular season, but he looked very good in the preseason. That offseason, Sean Payton offered the Cowboys a 3rd round draft choice. Jerry Jones turned it down, wanting no less than a 2nd rounder.

At first I thought they were going to trade him. But after Zimmer's comments, I am convinced they like him and would like to continue to develop him. If the right trade offer comes along he will be gone. But otherwise he is a much better prospect than Mannion, and potentially Cousins. Cousins has accuracy, but is a pretty average QB.

Again, he's playing against 3rd string guys. If you want to make an argument that he should get some time with the #2s, ok. But a 1st and a 3rd for him (I'm guessing that was sarcasm)?? lol. Even a 4th round pick is silly.

Watch the drives he was in yesterday: mostly clean pockets, time to throw and guys were wide open. Also: look at the stats of other QBs playing around the NFL in similar situations: good stats too. Social media has made everyone highly critical and 'knowledgable' about every sports-related. Kirk has a crappy game yesterday and now fans want Sloter to start. It just is all so goofy. Fans are the worst, they really are. And the best.
If he was doing it against the 2's then he might get a high trade offer, that is the short sightedness of Zimmer.

If he had put him in right after Cousins yesterday and had similar results the Colts might be calling with and intriguing offer.  As it is he's just done it with 3's so it's not as good a sample.  I'd rather have a gamer than a good student playing QB, the good student can be a coach.

Can you identify/name 4 players on either side of the ball that changed when Sloter came in?

The offensive line both played behind was Jones-center, Dozier, Samia-guards, Norman, Udoh-tackles.

So it's safe to assume Mannion was playing against the same D players that Kyle faced when he took over?

Yes that is correct.

We've been so focused on the Sloter earning the the #2 slot that it may be unnecessarily becoming a "#2 or bust" proposition. Not sure why it took me 3 games to realize but... #2... #3... he's still sticking around. He's still taking needed reps somewhere and continuing to polish up his game.

I was excited to see this play out. Turns out... it's not that exciting lol. This is only going to mean anything if Cousins' goes down or if we decide on carrying only 2 QBs... Browning is all but destined to 'do-nothing' his way to the practice squad.

No, but I'm talking in general over the last two preseasons, all games.

If he comes in for any significant time during the season in mop up or otherwise and plays anywhere close to the level he has to date they will get phone calls from QB needy teams.
