Sloter or Mannion?
#1
Clearly Kirk is the top guy, and I thought he looked very sharp.  This
is about the only time we get to see the backup QBs play, and I really
didn't think Mannion outplayed Sloter

Based on the TC reports I've heard, Sloter's play hasn't been very consistent, and Mannion was clearly winning the #2 spot.  I didn't see that in Friday night's game.  It looked pretty even to me, and I'd even give the nod to Sloter because he seems more mobile.

I wonder if Sloter will get #2 reps in the upcoming games?

I would love to see Slotter get snaps this weekend with the #1's for one or two drives, or at least be the first QB to start with group 2's like Mannion did last week. I think he deserves that -

I think I have seen enough of Mannion to know who he is.  I would like to see more of Sloter.  Some guys just are not very good in practice but they turn it on in games.

mannion may give the coaches warm fuzzies in practice but if he has to play its going to be awful.

Kirk, Sloter and Browning combined for 12/14 completions.
Mannion was 7/13. He did get the bulk of the work. I was not impressed though. Let Sloter try some meaningful snaps.

I don't even there is much of a debate if Mannion is the #2 or not. The question is whether they are going to roster 3 QB's and whether that guy is Sloter or Browning. There is a lot more that goes into being a backup QB than what you do on the field and Mannion is better served to be a "backup coach" to Kirk than either of the other two QB's. There is a reason they hand selected someone who has intricate knowledge of the Shanahan/Walsh offense.

Sloter needs to even out his game and avoid the highs & lows that show up both in the games and during practice. His arm and athletic talents are very good, and he's a great guy. But you can't assume his production would hold steady against a stiffer level of competition of a team that'd game planned for him.

yeah, have to chuckle a bit when some say he should get some reps against the 1s.  Perhaps we should give some reps against those that will make an NFL roster gradually and let him play against the 2nd string first.

Vikings have never been good at identifying QBs for almost 40 years so its not surprising.

I haven't seen anyone assume that he would be blowing away better competition, but what does it hurt to finally pit him against the number twos after the past 2 years that he has shown?  He obviously couldn't have played any better against the competition he's seen so far, so why not bump him up a level to see how he does there?

I don't disagree with that. You can get him reps against a higher level of competition. But even if he performs well that doesn't necessarily make him a better mentor in the room for Kirk. What that would do is show that he is worth continued development.
