He's very high on Shamar, which is good to hear.
With Stephens in there, I'm willing to bet our run D improves. He won't be as flashy as Richardson was supposed to be, but I'll take assignment sure in this D.

With Richardson, there was way too many rushing yards up the middle. Richardson was caught too many times playing outside of the defensive line scheme. Stephens is more assignment oriented, playing the middle and stopping the run.

Agreed - IF Stephens is in there. But SS was here before 2018 and we still were often exploited up the middle, because even before Sheldon Richardson, Vikings defensive coaches love to put an undersized pass-rush DT into the middle of the defensive line. Maybe they will re-sign Tom Johnson, maybe they will use Mata'afa, slide Griffen over, or promote Holmes into the role...but do you really think they will have Linvalle+Shamar playing even half the snaps?

Pretty sure it was Linval and Shamar playing most of the snaps in 2017. SS played quite a bit and that led to him getting a better offer with Seattle from what I remember.

The 2017 defense was extremely stout against the run... 2nd in rushing yards allowed, 5th in yards per attempt, etc.
That was Shamar's first year playing starter's snaps. I'm expecting a bounce back year for our run defense with him in the middle.
Coaches and players rave about the guy. It's not blowing smoke either... very underrated player.
Hopefully Jaleel Johnson's getting Joseph's OTA and minicamp reps will pay off for him. Been waiting for him to flash for 2 years now after being excited about him in 2017.
Lots of talent on the D line: no concerns there for me as a fan.
If there's a better 1-8, I'd like to see it.
