Maybe We Have A Potential Pops17?

Also supports SFVikefan 's shocked reaction to the draft profiles that questioned his character/work ethic, that none of this had been said while Mitchell was at Oregon.
Maybe some teammates/staff ( the "entrusted individuals with ill intent" ) at Oregon were pissed he left early and decided to Duck him over. Sounds like tinfoil hat or bad soap opera stuff but somebody dropped a bomb on the kid's draft stock.

This is the kinda stuff Geoff is privy to, not us mere mortals.
To the OP's point, hope the kid is a steal.

There will never be another "Pops"... and I hope he won't completely forget about us. (After all, it wasn't OUR decision to let his son go!)
But it WOULD be cool if another player's father wanted to join our ranks. Maybe "Dadillon 17"?

I saw this article a couple days ago... if it was a bunch of false information, I like this pick even more.

It's funny... I read some pre-draft reports that said he had issues taking to coaching/maturity stuff.
But then I watched his post-draft interview with Wobby and he sounded like a humble kid that was really appreciative of his opportunity after getting drafted. Seemed really genuine. It struck me as odd since I was expecting him to come across a lot differently. I think he'll be a buzzy guy at training camp. The kid definitely has some talent.

MItchell has gotten a lot of buzz, mostly because he was supposed to go earlier in the draft than he did, but I just watched highlights and combine workouts of both Dillon Mitchell and Olabisi Johnson and I might like Olabisi a little more. Nearly identical in size, but the two couldn't be more different in style. Mitchell probably has more upside and better long speed, but Olabisi is quicker, stronger, has better hands and is a better route runner. He also has a rep of being great on special teams, super smart and a coach's dream. Those are the kind of players that prove very difficult to cut.

Quote: @RS Express said:It is a bizarre situation. Look as a Duck alum I will gladly admit to playing the UO Homer card. But seriously, this kid has talent. One thing people don't see on tape is that Oregon had no other WR talent. Herbert locked on to Dillon way too much. Dillon's best games were the UW Huskies and Stanford - by far the best defenses in the PAC 12. Ask any Ducks fan: Josh Huff or Dillon Mitchell and it's no question, yet Huff went Round 3?? I don't think it was anyone at Oregon who put out this bad press pre draft. Maybe an agent? It's odd, kid had a clean reputation at Oregon. |
