Probably good person to push Sloter to develope, has 4 training camps and that's about it.

If he won't sign, who's our next option for a veteran backup - Christian Ponder?

Maybe we're bringing Mannion in expecting him to end up being QB3.

At surface value Mannion gives Sloter a veteran to compete against and prove he's what we think. If he has already "earned" the backup spot he'll continue to display it in his play. He really needs to keep showing stuff as it is anyway. We couldn't give him the #2 spot and afford any bad preseason games.

Mannion keeps the door open in a way where if it doesnt work out with Sloter we still have an experience player to also evaluate.

You could draft a rookie in addition and still play the #2 by ear.

Cousins
Sloter/Mannion (winner takes)
Late Rookie

The Sloter/Late Rookie combo would give us flexibility in the years ahead and time to evalite.

The Mannion/Late Rookie combo gives us that on paper natural progression dynamic in the competion between the two.

And neither combo comes with a gigantic commitment. If Kirk plays himself into a new deal or we need to pay Tony Romo to leave CBS we could do what we wanted...

Would like to see them take a chance on Easton Stick

Barf.  He makes Trevor Simien's arm look like Favre's.
