Should the Vikings take a QB in the first 4 rounds?
#1
I think its something they should strongly consider if the Draft falls right. Does anyone really believe Minnesota is going to extend Cousins contract beyond the 3 years he signed for? I say absolutely not. Take a shot at his potential successor right now....and again next year if necessary. The Vikings would have no problem signing a veteran band aid, they are available every year in FA at the QB position, but that just kicks the can down the road. The Draft is where they need to go with this.

If the Vikings are mediocre again this year, they'll be in rebuild mode for sure the next offseason. The staff will most likely be fired. The organization needs to prepare for the future at this position regardless. Taking a QB in the 7th round isn't doing anything. Sloter seems to be an afterthought. Draft a kid and let him learn without pressure.

If Rosen is truly available for a third, you do the trade...otherwise I'd grab a guy like Jackson from Buffalo at the end of Day 3

I am not as convinced that cousins won't be resigned.  Last seasons oline issues were not on him so imo until that is resolved it's really up in the air.  I will say if they truly dont think Sloter has a future beyond scout team reps then they need to start thinking QB in even the 2nd or 3rd rounds so if they do move on from KC they have a young guy with a couple years of mentoring under his belt ready to step in instead of these journeyman retreads they try to squeeze a year out of here and there.

Cousins isn't elite.  You need to keep churning through QBs until you find that elite guy.  The whole idea of waiting until you want to get rid of your QB before starting to look for another is super dumb.  The Giants should have got a QB years ago.  The Dolphins should have got a QB years ago.  Even if you have an elite QB, it's not a bad idea to keep searching, as you never know when you'll need them, and they can almost always be flipped for picks.

I'd say a 2 rounder or maybe higher next year would make sense if the team is ready to move on from Kirk. We are for better or worse married to that 3 year deal. Unless someone wants to take it off our hands. This year every high draft pick will likely be spent to improve the teams chances of THIS marriage working. Otherwise there will be a divorce. Not just Kirk but the Wilf's from Mike and maybe Rick. These guys can't afford to play the long game...imo. I'm not injecting my opinion for or against just addressing the probably business side of it. If Sloter is not making them confident they will try someone else. That's an affordable #2.

Geez, after one year with Cousins we're already closing the book on him as our long-term starter?  That seems a little knee-jerkish...
I guess we'll see how things play out this season, but I don't think the Vikings will be taking a QB early in this draft.  If we're playing hypotheticals... and let's say the Vikings don't make the playoffs the Wilf's clean house...  does it really make sense to take a QB this season?  Wouldn't you want the new HC and GM to pick "their guy"?

I'd say no.  Before we spend (waste) draft capital, why not see what you've got in Sloter?  Yeah, maybe they don't believe in him... but they didn't believe in O'Neill either (until they were forced to play him).  The only reason that this regime should draft a QB is if they intend to start him from day 1.  Otherwise, I don't think that the QB will get a chance, no matter how good they are.  I just don't trust this regime to get players ready to start (unless they play CB).

As of today if the Vikings had to make a decision on Cousins I would put my money on the front office opting to not resign him. Internally he hasn't been exactly what they thought. Doesn't mean that year two won't be better and change the narrative.

Spielman can't seem to find a QB if one bumped into him.  My gawd, he's tried and tried, but it just seems like he can't recognize the traits and grab a winning starting QB.  I'm not saying the stat machine Cousins is a horrible QB, because I do think he's decent.  He just seems to be an above average QB that lacks the swagger, awareness, and playmaking ability of a franchise QB.

The Vikings have got more pressing needs this year than a quarterback.  Why bring in a rookie quarterback just to watch him get killed on the field?
